Title of the book: Mother Teresa In My Own Words

Author: Mother Teresa

Publisher: Gramercy Books

The main theme of this book is about love. In this book, there are many quotations from Mother Teresa. All of them are meaningful and they are all about loving and caring others. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.

The happiest thing to do is giving a helping hand to other people, including those we like or those we dislike, with our compassion, generosity and selflessness, as Mother Teresa said, “Love begins with smile and peace begins with love.” For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying.

I think this book is very inspiring and meaningful. Her words are full of wisdom, which is useful for us. She has set a very good example for us to follow: giving material and spiritual help to the poor all over the world. Not only serving the poor people, but she also chose to be poor. She never accepted the invitation to eat out.

I begin to think about the problem of poverty around the world after reading the book. We, in Hong Kong, live a comparatively rich life. We are the fortune ones. Should we and could we lend a helping hands to our poor ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’? Should we begin to change our life styles?

I admire Mother Teresa that she was willing to abandon all her possessions to help the poor people in India. I will learn to be more considerate by donating some of my red packets to the charity organizations.
