2. Fifth Amendment—protects a person against being compelled to be a witness against himself or herself in a criminal case.
3. Sixth Amendment--guarantees the rights of criminal defendants-- the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and the right to know who your accusers are, the nature of the charges and evidence against the defendant.
4. Seventh Amendment--applies only to civil cases heard in federal courts. A civil case does not involve criminal matters; it is a dispute between private parties or between the government and a private party. The right to trial by jury is guaranteed in any civil case in a federal court if the amount of money involved in that case exceeds $20 (Suing someone!)
5. Controversial– debatable; heated; scandalous
6. Acquit– to find to be not guilty
7. Unanimous-- agreed and undisputed by all
8. Misdemeanor– a criminal offense less serious than a felony

Use any resource available at home to find one synonym of each of your words. Also, draw a picture that represents each word/synonym pair.Create a chart with your findings. / Create a game using all of your vocabulary words. Make sure the game can be played by other students. / ***Short Story: Write a story using each of the vocabulary words. Underline the Vocabulary words. Make sure that the examples use the words correctly!
Write the vocabulary words and definitions on flashcards. Use to the cards to study. / Create a matching vocabulary test for all of your weekly vocabulary words. The test must be designed in a 2 column format. / Rhyme: Write a poem, rap, or song that uses all of the vocabulary words. Underline the Vocab. words. Make sure that the examples use the words correctly! It must show that you know what the words mean!
Comic strip: Create a comic strip that shows a story using each of your vocabulary words. Underline the Vocabulary words. / Create sentences using your vocabulary words. (One sentence per word, please.) The sentences need to be about an important historical figure. Underline your vocabulary word, and mark your person in history with a highlighter. / Create a flip book that includes your vocabulary words and correct definitions for each.
