Lease for 3 years of the manor or mansion house of Rawthmell called the Newhall in Rawthmell late in occupation of John Catterall, deceased, and lands called the Carrs, Ellis Close, the Crossethwaitewood, the Crossethwaite, the Roughthwaite, the Northwood, the Kilnethwaite, the Intack, the Littlebankefield, the Littlebankebrowe, the Corneclose, the lowest stubbinge, the Wheat Close, the hipping land, the hurrell on both sides of the water, the Longlands alias Barrowelands, the Moore close, the Clonnie garth containing in all about 240a.; also messuages and lands late in the occupation of Jeffrey Atkinson and others (named), a water corn mill called Rawthmell Mill and 3a. belonging to it, and multure etc. appertaining; a messuage called Hollinghall containing 58a. in the occupation of Henry Wiglesworth, a messuage at Huggonhouse in the occupation of Jane Walbanke, widow and of John Carr containing 7a., close called Hall Inge containing 4a., close called Crosse Inge containing 2½a., parcel called Lyneholme containing 2½a., messuage late in the occupation of Henry Foster, messuage late in the occupation of Francis Browne and then of John Caterall and now in the occupation of William Catterall, messuage late in the occupation of John Carr, messuage now or late in the occupation of Edmond Carr, cottage and lands belonging in Rawthmell, now or late in the occupation of Matthew Proctor, cottage and lands in Rawthmell now or late in the occupation of John Parkinson and Mabell his wife, messuage in Rawthmell called Gawthropp alias Gawkthropp now or late in the occupation of Thomas Caterall, gent., Grace Caterall, widow, and John Caterall her son, 1 oxgang of land, fields and Swainstead and 14a. belonging to it late in the joint possession of John Settle, Thomas Gregson and others (named), messuage containing 8a. now or late in the occupation of John Burton, cottage and parcel late in the occupation of William Cooke, 1 oxgang in the lordship of West Halton, co. Yorks., now or late in the occupation of John Wilkinson, cottage and lands in West Halton now or late in the occupation of John Wright, cottage and parcel of moorish ground late in the occupation of Anthony Carr, 2 parcels of land called Nettlehole, Langthwaite and Threapscore now or late in the occupation of Richard Bradley, ½ tenement sometime in the occupation of Anthony Twistleton and Richard Franklande and now or late in the occupation of William Caterall and others (named) and ½ oxgang called Banke Oxgang now or late in the occupation of John Kaye, ½ of the heath ground called Over Raike alias Flaming Gifte

This indenture (of a lease) made the eight and twentieth day of March in the fourth year of the reign of our sovereign lord Charles by the grace of God king of England etc.

Between William Catterall of Rathmell in the county of York, Henry Wigglesworth of Long Preston in the said county gent and Samuel Knipe for diverse and sundry good causes and valuable considerations etc. have demised etc to Christopher Barkerhouse:-

All that manor or mansion house in Rathmell commonly called and known by the name of Newhall situate and lying in Rathmell aforesaid late in the tenure or possession of John Catterall deceased or his assigns and also all that several pieces or parcels of arable meadow pasture and woody ground hereafter in {this indenture] mentioned and expressed that is to say the close of meadow called the Carres, one close of pasture ground called Ellis Royd the Crossthaitewood the Crossthwaite, the roughthwaite, the north wood, the Kilnthwaite, the Intake, the littlebankfield, the littlebankbrow, the thornclose, the lowest stubbing, the wheatclose, the hipping land, the furze(?) on both sides of the water, the longlands alias Barrowlands, the moor close, the Sunny(?) Garth, the premises do lye together near unto the Newhall in Rathmell aforesaid and do contain by estimation 340 acres be they more or less. And also all the several messuages and tenements now or lately in the several tenures or occupations of Jeffrey Atkinson; William Banks, Richard Brown, Richard Bradley, William Jenkinson, John Foster, Henry Brown, John Windsor ? John fletcher or any (illegible) their assigns or assignees and all and singular hereditments, barns, buildings, stables, orchards, gardens, curtilages, larksides (?), lands, meadows, pastures, woods and wood ground, waste, commons, common of pasture and turbary, ways, paths, water courses, liberties, …. Profits, and comodities whatsoever to the said manor and mills belonging or in any way appertaining. And also all that water corn mill called and known by the name of Rathmell Mill and three acres of ground thereto belonging and adjoining, mulcture etc and milldam flood .. etc belonging.

Also a messuage with all its appurtenances known as Hollinghall in Rathmell cont. 58 acres late in the tenure of Henry Wiggleswoth

Also one messuage and tenement at Huggon House in Rathmell occupied by Jane Wallbank widow and John Carr cont 15 acres

Also one close of meadow known as hall ing in rathmell 4 acres, one other close of meadow called … Inge cont 3.5 acres and another called Lynesholme 5.5 acres

Also one othe messuage in Rathmell now or lately in the possession of Henry Foster

Another messuage occ by francis brown previously bu John Catterall deceased and William preston But now in the farm or possession of William Catterall

Another messuage lately in the possession of John Carr son of William Carr

A cottage formerly Mathew Proctor (? Could possibly be Foster)

A mess known as carrthrop lately Thomas catterall’s gent clare catterall widow and john catterall her son

One oxgang of land lying in rathmell field and swainstead and 14 acres of pasture or common belonging late in the joint or several occupation of John Settle; Thomas gregson; John Ward, John Carr of the Green and Henry Foster

Another mess in rathmell 8 acres in the tenure of john burton, a close occ by William clerk

A cottage and little close belonging late in tenure of William clark (cook ?)

Another in northallerton occ by john Watkinson another there by john wright

One other close of Moorish ground in rathmell lately occupied by Anthony carr and all the several closes known as cletterhole ?, langthwaite and threapscore lately occupied by Richard Bradley

One half a tenement before part of 1 tenement formerly in the possession of Anthony twistleton and Richard Frankland and now by William catterall henry foster and Bartholomew armestead

And one half an oxgang of land known as bank oxgang occ. by john hare

And the moiety of that hereditment known as overbank(?) alias Flemming Gift and also all the barns etc in any way belonging
