LAMBGATES HEALTH CENTRE (LHC)

PATIENT GROUPMEETING

THURSDAY 7th April2016

In Attendance:

Chris Godwin (CG) Chair Gail Searle (GS) Secretary Kathryn Ley (KL) Joanne Oldfield (JO) Michael Duckworth (MD) Shirley Kirk (SK) Helen McGovern (HM) Keith Clegg (CG) Maureen Hunter (MH)

Apologies: Sandra Pearson Alan McGovern

Michael Duckworth introduced himself as being in the second year of his post as Pharmacist at Lambgates Health Centre (LHC). His role is to review the medication of patients over the age of 75 who have not recently been assessed by a doctor. This usually takes place around the patient’s birthday and its purpose is purely to ensure the patient is on the correct medication or combination of medication for their condition(s). It is not a cost cutting exercise and will not lead to patients’ medication being unnecessarily changed or withdrawn.

  1. Matters Arising From Last Meeting (3.3.16)

Boots Chemist Hadfield. (LHC) is still monitoring by way of a spread sheet as whilst there is evidence of improved services there could be more improvements.

Keith (KC) has identified out of date information on the LHC website but is disappointed by the lack of response by the surgery. Joanne (JO) will be available at the convenience of Keith (KC) and Gail (GS) to address both the website and the Patient Group Notice Board.

Chris (CG) was unable to ask the Glossopdale GP Locality Group (GPLG) for their reaction to the report of the Care Quality Commission inspectors being paid less and what impact this would have on the ‘quality’ of inspectors and their inspections. The location of the GPLG meeting was changed but Chris was not notified which raises the question as to how serious the GPLG is about having a patient representative. Kathryn (KC) believes this will come up at future GPLG meetings particularly as the cost to the surgery for the CQC inspections has risen from £600 last year to £2500 this year.

Chris (CG) contacted Julie Farley at Glossop Volunteer Bureau (GVB) regarding information which could be passed onto patients at their 5 yearly health checks which may assist in their general health and wellbeing by promoting groups, organisation, volunteering etc. The GVB has already considered something along those lines and are in the process of compiling a leaflet. Julie will contact Chris (CG) with the outcome.

The 394 Bus Service from Glossop to Stepping Hill Hospital was threatened with withdrawal, but is now to be retained.

Minutes Accepted

  1. Surgery Update

Receptionist Amy unfortunately has chosen to leave the practice. Therefore the position will shortly be advertised.

The CQC inspection scheduled for the 5th April was cancelled at less than 24hrs notice by the CQC. It is likely to be rescheduled sometime in June.

  1. PPG Awareness Week 9-11th June

It was suggested at the previous Patient Locality Group to get local radio to promote PPGs.

Kathryn (KL) will ask Natalie to promote the PPG on Facebook during that week.

Keith (KC) and Gail (GS) will decorate the PG notice board to attract attention.

  1. Glossopdale Local Community Care Team

A recent workshop event regarding the LCCT was attended by Chris (CG) and Michael (MD). It was considered to be well organised and effective. It was apparent some professionals had differing views as to which organisation/department was responsible for various needs. Michael has since contacted the organiser of the event asking if any developments have been made as a result of the workshop and is awaiting a response.

  1. Young Persons Event

A preferred meeting date has yet to be made by Glossopdale High School (GHS) which had to cancel the last one. A health event was held at Glossop Rugby Club April 3rd to tackle Young People’s health choices/obesity/inactivity etc. Professionals in this field and young adults were invited. Helen (HM) will liaise with Kathryn prior to meeting with GHS.

  1. Repeat Diabetes Awareness

LHC has yet to gather feedback from those who attended the event. Joanne (JO) is arranging this and will include such questions as to how a repeat event could be improved. Comments made to members of the group suggest a dietician at future events would be helpful.

  1. Locality Group Update

Both Simondley and Howard St practices are to look at offering Patient on line Access to Medical Records.

Manor House received a Good Rating at their recent CQC inspection and achieved Outstanding for their Elderly Care. Whilst Manor House has lost the contract for 24hr ECG monitoring, the new providers will be situated at the Manor House surgery so there will be no impact on patients.

  1. Any Other Business

A patient who forgot to request a repeat prescription before his medication ran out was correctly advised it takes 48hrs from request to the prescription being issued. However, he should have been advised ‘emergency supplies’ can be obtained by the chemist for a few days in the interim. Kathryn (KL) noted for all frontline staff to be aware.

Patient Access has recently been showing no Doctor appointments available. Since the meeting the fault has been identified and the surgery is addressing it. When patients experience problems with the service it is useful if they inform the surgery and for it to be recorded in order for it to be rectified.

Val, the Community Paramedic will be asked to attend the PG meeting in July. Age UK will be attending the meeting in June regarding the Buddying Scheme.

Blythe House Hospice is now offering Hospice Care in the home for patients in the last year of their life in conjunction with GPs and Marie Curie nurses. Leaflets are available in the surgery waiting room.

Paul Oakley is setting up a gentle chair based yoga class for carers of people with dementia. It begins April 27th at Howard Town House.
