Lakeview School Council Minutes

October 24, 2017

In Attendance: Robert Blake (Principal), Amy Woodland (Vice Principal), Heather Verrall, Bobbi-Ann Garrett, Nicole Culnane, Barb Gaspic, Val Fast, Jessica Bell, Sherry-Lynn March, Alison Duwyn and Mike Capozzolo

Welcome and Introductions

Heather welcomed everyone to the meeting at 6:30pm.

Chair’s Report – Heather Verrall

Snack Program

- program has started for this year

-Will continue to offer at least 2 snacks per day of either fruit, cheese strings, crackers, granola bars, nutri-grain bars or yogurt tubes as per the nutritional guidelines set out by NNP.

-Dana Watt and BobbiAnn Garrett will share shopping and restocking responsibility (Dana – 1st week of the month, BobbiAnn – 3rd week of the month)

NNP needs to come into to do a reassessment of our program(as per part of our funding) Heather will arrange a time that works with Amy.

PRO Grant

-Lakeview received the PRO Grant again for this year for a total of $1000, this is to pay for the Paul Davis presentation and all photocopying for promotion.

-Event is scheduled for November 23 with day presentations for junior and intermediate students and an evening presentation for parents.

-we will once again offer the ice cream for all students who have a parent or guardian attend the evening session.

-Amy will get 2 student volunteers to assist us with the daycare option available to Lakeview families.

Movie Night

-has been put on hold until the new year as we were unable to get a date that works for volunteers.

Principal’s Report – Bob Blake

JK-Grade 8 progress reports going home Nov 9th. Nov 15th has been slotted for most parent/teacher interviews. All scheduling can be done online this year and everyone will have a 10 min slot for timing.

Picture retakes are scheduled for Fri Oct 27th, it is asked that parents write in their child’s agenda if they wish to have retakes done.

Remembrance Day Program will be on Fri Nov 10th. The assembly will start at 10:45, parents are invited to attend. Mrs. Knerr’s class has been busy putting this together. The assembly will be for gr 3-8 students.

PIC conference is Nov 1st at Eden High School in St. Catharines. Parents can register online to attend. There are a variety of workshops to choose from. It is once again a free evening and runs from 4:15-8:15.

Grade 3 students have received a grant from EFN for the Swim to Survive program. There is no charge for students to attend the three sessions. Each session is one hour in length at the local YMCA.

First recognition assembly is this Friday. We will be recognizing students in various events, clubs, athletics. We will also let students know about upcoming events, info and bragging about our school successes.

Clubs that are up and running; Intermediate Volleyball, Jr Volleyball skills, Eco Team, Terry Fox-done, We Scare hunger, Me to We, this Friday will also be the reveal of the upcoming school musical.

Fundraising

-Pita lunches and Pizza lunches continue this year.

-Notifications are sent home via School Cash Online

-Pizza days Wednesday and Pita days Monday

-Mentioned some pizza slice sizes have been an issue, Nicole will talk to them again

Next Meeting

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday January 23rd at 6:30pm in the school’s library.
