Lake Madrone Bark: POST-Labor Day Edition
9/13/12
The Labor Day turnout was great! Special thanks to the Toyon Trail families and many additional volunteers who provided the help with organization, setup, cooking, and presentation of food, serving and cleanup: We all had a great time! The volunteers were thrilled with the number of people who attended the dinner and dance and all those who contributed so generously toward the bird house raffle. Our community donated enough money from the dinner and “tips” to cover the cost of the meal, the DJ, and still have enough left over to donate to the Landscape Committee for purchase of a large permanent family picnic table. What a caring, generous community we have! I feel very privileged to be part of such a group in such a beautiful setting! May this community spirit continue for years to come!
BITS FROM THE BOARD
Channel Cleanout and Watercraft Removal: The lake water level will be lowered October 1st or shortly thereafter when the water inflow into the Lake is at its lowest. Bodil and the Board are asking everyone who has a watercraft at the beaches or shoreline to remove them at the end of Labor Day weekend unless you are sure you will be able to do it at another time before October 1st. Let Dennis or Bodil know if you need help moving your boat/canoe. Also please remove beach floats, chairs, and other toys after this weekend unless you plan to used them for the coming month.
Lake Outlet Pipe Repair: The Board continues to research and obtain bids for replacement of the outlet pipe at the dam. They are working with the Dept. of Dam Safety on assessment of the pipe status and repair/replacement of the pipe. More information will be available at the Board Meetings.
Shaded Fuel Break Project: The one mile long brush-clearing and tree trimming project around Lake Madrone was completed last year and the Board is committed to maintaining this zone around the Lake. It is critically important for you to do your part in making our community “fire safe” by clearing brush and removing pine needles within 100 ft of your residence, or to your property line.
Aquatic Weeds: The Board continues to support the weed treatment and required water quality monitoring for water weeds as they occur.
OTHER BITS:
Landscape Committee: Next meeting at Ski Beach is Sat, Sept. 1st at 10:00am.
History Wall: A retaining wall is being constructed at the Ski Beach. The wall will contain “history bricks” with a family cabin name/date/sentiment printed on the brick. If you want to purchase a brick each brick costs $100. Robert has a helpful form for you to complete so that you select the proper number of spaces per each of three lines. Contact Robert Rogers if you are interested in participating: 589-3031. A total of $7000 is needed to complete the project.
Address Book for Lake Madrone: Pam Durracq has stepped forward to assist Joanie Casillas in completing a local address book for those of us who would like to be able to communicate with our Lake friends. THIS IS TOTALLY OPTIONAL. The project was started last year and we hope to have this completed by Memorial Day 2013. The address pages will be available at Board Meetings or upon request in 2013. You may include mailing address and/or email/or phone: This information WILL NOT BE PLACED ON THE WEB!

OBITUARIES:
John “Chuck” Adams: Chuck passed away very suddenly on Sept. 4th. He was a lifelong resident of Gridley and a lifelong Lake Madrone vacationer. Chuck is remembered for his loving, warm smile, big hugs, and great laugh. He was a devoted family man who was very active with his children and grandchildren. Chuck was also a very dear friend to many as well as committed to his community. He was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. While being a rice farmer and cattleman he was also an avid horseman, hunter, and fisherman.
Chuck was a happy man who loved life and family, which he always showed while at play with them at the lake. Our sincere condolences go out to Chuck’s wife, Kathy, and their very extensive family. We will greatly miss his positive energy and exuberant personality at the lake.
Linda Potoski: We are saddened to hear of the passing of a friend who was a cabin owner for many years. She and her husband, Stan Potoski, were active with lake activities and Stan served on the Board for several years. Linda’s sweet personality and smile, great giggle and positive energy will always be remembered by her friends and family. Our condolences to Stan for his loss and to the entire family: She will be missed.
Gary Jeffers: Gary was a kid “raised at Lake Madrone” from infancy to the present and he always had a great affection for the Lake. There was a massive community hunt for Gary in his toddler years when he sneaked away from his Mom and siblings at their cabin on Cedar Path but was found safe and well in a short amount of time.
Gary was “life of the party” wherever he went and a friend to many. Gary was an enthusiastic horseshoe thrower and competitor; always having great times at play! He was also known for his annual “fishing trips” to the lake in May where he and local friends and Gridley buddies would play lots of cards, eat some great BBQ, throw some shoes, and maybe do some fishing!
Gary leaves behind an extensive family and many, many friends who will miss his fantastic smile and great laugh. Our condolences to the entire family, many who have cabins at the lake as Gary was part of the Adams, Casillas, Cullen, Ramage, Tennant, and Wheeler families. Gary will be greatly missed.
