Exercise 18.1 – Phylum Porifera

- learn basic sponge structure using models and specimens provided

- observe fixed slide of long section of Scypha

Exercise 18.2 – Phylum Cnidaria

- observe live specimen of Hydra

- learn basic internal and external anatomy of Hydra; model and fixed slides (w.m. and c.s.)

Exercise 18.3 – Phylum Platyhelminthes

- observe live specimen of Dugesia (follow procedure in book)

- learn basic internal and external anatomy of Dugesia; model and fixed slide (c.s)

Exercise 18.4 – Phylum Mollusca

- learn internal and external anatomy of the clam; dissection, models

- observe other types of molluscs (snails, octopus, squid)

Exercise 18.5 A and B – Phylum Annelida

- learn external anatomy of the clam worm, Nereis; preserved specimens; no dissection

- learn internal and external anatomy of the earthworm, Lumbricus; model, dissection, and fixed slide
