Lab: Replace the BI launch pad “Home tab”

with a BI Workspace.

Scenario

Desired Output:
It is to replace the default BI launch padhome page with a BI Workspace.

Objectives

In this lab, you will:

Use the Modules that expose external “My Inbox”, “My Alerts”, “My Applications“, etc.

Build BI workspace in 4.0 by using the above modules.

Define this new BI workspace as the default home tab when a user logs into BI launch pad.

Pre conditons for this lab:

Logged onto BI launch pad as user: train-xx, password: train-xx
Where xx= 00 to 01

Let’s get started!

Create a new BI workspace:

  1. Log on to the BI launch pad. The BI launch pad opens in the Home tab.
  2. In the My Applications block at the right, choose the BI workspace icon. A new tab opens with the name New BI workspace.

  1. Select the page layout for the new workspace as follows::
  2. From the Layout dropdown list in the toolbar, chooseColumns.
  3. Click on “Add Column” to turn the layout into 4 columns.
  1. Customizethe layout as follows:
  2. Adjust the width of the outer columns so they are narrower than the 2 middle columns.
  1. Click the Expand Module Library icon on the left side of BI workspace to display the Module Library.
  2. Click the “BI Launch Pad Modules” icon in the Module Library toolbar.
  1. From the Module Library, drag and drop the modules : “My Inbox”, “My Alerts”, “My Applications” so the Workspace looks like this:

  1. Click the “Templates” icon in the Module Library toolbar.
  1. Add “Web Page Module” on the left column :

  1. And mouse over the top menu bar of that Web Page Module, click on Edit (Key icon)
  1. Type the following URL so the module displays the RSS feed from SDN :

  1. Click OK, the workspace should now look like this (adjust the column width if necessary) :

  1. Add “Navigation List” and the “Viewer” on the left column :
  1. Click the “Public Modules” icon in the Module Library toolbar.
  2. Navigate in the folder, open the “Training_Webinar_Folder” select the “Dashboard_Swf1” report. Press “CRTL” and drag and drop to the “Navigation List” Pane. Do the same thing with the “Acme_Dashboard”
  1. In the navigation pane, select the report, it appears in the viewer pane.
  1. Click on the arrow next to the workspace title “New BI Workspace” to display the contextual menu:
  1. Click on the Properties…
  2. Select the BI launch pad style sheet by clicking on the bottom left style sheet sample:
  1. Save the page as the basis of your workspace by clicking the Save icon in the toolbar.

Since this is a new BI workspace, the Save as dialog box opens, with the Favorites selected.

  1. Click on Folders
  2. Click the Folder icon in the toolbar to create a new folder, and name it “Manager’s Workspace”
  1. Open (double-click) the new folder, name the BI workspace “Home Workspace” and click Save.

The BI workspace tab name is updated with its new name.

  1. Click the “Exit Edit Mode”button.
  1. Click the Close icon in the first-levelHome Workspace tab.

Congratulations! You have built a new home tab.

Define the “Home Workspace” as the default Home tab.

  1. In the BI launch pad, open the Preferences.

The “Preferences” opens in a new dialog box.

  1. Uncheck “Use default settings (Administrator defined)”.
  1. In the “Home Tab”, check “select Home Tab”, then click on “Browse Home Tab ...”.
    A new dialog box will open. Navigate into the foldersin order to find the “Manager’s Workspace”, and select the “Home Workspace”.

Validate by clicking on “Open”.

  1. Validate your “Preferences” by clicking on “SaveClose”.
  1. Logout, then Log back in.
