Dear Parents,

After Fall Break we will begin to focus on sight words. These words are called sight words because some of them can’t be sounded out, and need to be learned by sight.Please read through the information below to become familiar with our Reading Rainbow Sight Words program.

The goal is for each child to know 100 sight words when they leave Kindergarten. Knowing a sight word means that they are able to recognize it based only on sight. It is important that your child understands that they do NOT sound out these words.

The 100 words are broken into 10 clubs of 10 words. Each club is a different color. The student will move their picture one color at a time until they have gotten to the Pot of Gold Club.

In order to get to the Pot of Gold Club, the student will need to read all 100 words at one time.

Each student will be tested on an assigned day of the week. They will only be tested once a week. Remember, your child may not make a club each week as some clubs are challenging and may take a couple of tries to pass.

If your child misses a word in the club that they are trying out for, they will be given a reminder sheet to take home with the words they missed circled, and will be able to try out again the next week.

If they are able to read all of the words in a club, they will get a certificate and a set of flashcards for the next club.

Please remember to only practice the club that your child is trying out for. Also, please continue to review with them the past clubs to make sure they do not forget those words. And don’t forget that these are all sight words. Please do not have your child “sound out” the words.
