Approximate Timeline and Due Date of Long-Term Projects:

  • Various projects will be assigned throughout the year.
  • Notification of projects will be given approx. two weeks prior to due date and require a parent / guardian signature.

General Methods of Assessment and Grade Calculation:

  • 40% Major Assignments: Tests and Projects
  • 55% Daily Assignments: Reading Logs, homework/ class assignments/assessments
  • 5% Writing

Average Amount of Homework:

  • Readings from self-selected materials and weekly assignments.

Assigned Reading / Literary Workshops not contained in course textbook:

  • Student will read a variety of genres provided by the teacher or student.

“Remind: Safe Classroom Communication”

  • All students and parents are encouraged to download the “Remind: Safe Classroom communication phone App. It can be downloaded free of charge for most Apple and Android devices. This will be a very important tool for parent-teacher, teacher-student communication.

For all state-approved courses, the State of Texas has developed the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) which define the guidelines under which La Porte ISD must develop the objectives for each course. These TEKS are cross-referenced to the LPISD curriculum objectives. In addition, LPISD objectives are cross-referenced to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness(STAAR) objectives.The complete TEKS document, which is approved by the Texas State Board of Education, may be found online at and is accessible by teachers, parents, and students.
