A temporary position* exists for a trainer in Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) Kinderto train teachers in the Wollongong/Wollongong Northcommunity/network of schools for 2017 and 2018**. It is anticipated that this position will involve 1-2days per week for (38) weeks each year and may be based in the candidate’sown school. The position is eligible for payment of a Higher Duties Allowance at Assistant Principal salary level. Applications should be emailed to by COB 17.2.2017.

L3 trainer role statement:

L3 Trainers are trained as either Kindergarten or Stage One trainers and deliver professional learning to groups of either Kindergarten or Stage One teachers.

L3 trainer statement of duties includes:

  • developing an implementation action plan in consultation with each participating principal
  • preparing and delivering professional learning and on-going in-class support for each participating teacher as required by the L3 program requirements
  • participating in meetings with other trainers facilitated by a lead trainer, as required.
  • collecting, analysing and discussing student data with the lead trainer, participatingschool principals and participating teachers to guide future planning and teaching
  • engaging in staff meetings and parent meetings as required
  • attending ongoing trainer professional learning requirements for the L3 program (see below).

L3 trainer training requirements:

L3 trainers must access the required professional learning from a qualified L3 lead trainer. Trainers must:

  • be teaching on, or have access to, the same grade of students as the training program being delivered
  • participate in all professional learning including 12 full-day professional learning sessions delivered by a qualified L3 lead trainer for their initial year of training
  • participate in 4 half-day ongoing professional learning sessions from an L3 Lead Trainer in their second and subsequent years of implementation
  • participate in a minimum of 3 collegial visits from an L3 lead trainer in the first and subsequent years of L3 professional learning
  • complete all in-between session tasks

L3 trainer selection criteria (Language, Learning and Literacy Guidelines, 2015):

  • completion of two years of current, registered training as a L3 Kindergarten or L3 Stage One teacher OR hold Reading Recovery Tutor qualifications
  • experience in using school assessment data to inform whole-school and classroom literacy programs
  • demonstrated deep understanding of the NSW English K-10 syllabus and support documents, and experience in implementing effective teaching strategies in the K-2 classroom
  • proven ability to apply high level interpersonal skills and coaching skills to liaise effectively with individuals to effect change

*This position is temporary and could cease earlier if the circumstances change.

**The applicant will retain right of return to his/her substantive school and position level at the end of the temporary appointment where they are a permanent NSW public school teacher.
