Filming for the Llanidloes DVD begun

If anyone was left in any doubt as to what was happening in Llanidloes on Tuesday the 20 ft crane and camera, known as the ‘jimmy jib’ gave the game away – filming has begun for a new promotional DVD featuring Iolo Williams, popular presenter of BBC2’s series ‘The Birdman’, ‘Iolo’s Wild Life’ and ‘Iolo’s Welsh Safari.

Iolo and local company Matthew Davies Media Ltd, have been commissioned by L.L.A.N.I. Ltd following a successful application for funding from the Welsh European Funding Office to promote Llanidloes and the surrounding area as a tourist destination. The 35 to 40 minute DVD is just one of the initiatives being employed, as well as a new Llanidloes brochure and website for the town which will aim to attract visitors to the area.

Iolo was filmed from the window of the Old Market Hall, visiting an exhibition by Llanidloes Arts Co-operative in Wood n Things Gallery and discussing the history and architecture of St Idloes Church with Dr David Stephenson. The DVD, which is benefiting from sponsorship by Randall Parker Foods Llanidloes, also filmed at Grandstand Bed & Breakfast in Trefeglwys, as Iolo and the crew stayed there to sample the hospitality on offer.

Claire Jones, Marketing Officer for L.L.A.N.I. Ltd said “filming has gone very well and despite a poor weather forecast we’ve had sunshine for the past two days. Iolo has been great – willing to don a wetsuit and get wet at Clywedog, deliver his lines across a less than steady rope bridge at Mount Severn Activity Centre – without falling in! and he was on target at Mid Wales Shooting Centre – hitting the clay on his first take.”

“There will also be a couple of days filming in October and the helicopter will be booked to ensure we have the aerial shots we need. Many Thanks to everyone who has helped with the filming over the past couple of days, including those held up for a short time as we stopped the traffic around the market hall, to Severn Trent for giving us special permission to film Iolo walking across the dam and to Steve Gamman and Colin Wellson for helping Iolo learn how to sail and fish”
