The University now seeks to appoint a KTP Associate in Applied Game Design & Technology to work jointly with the School of Arts, Media and Computer Games in collaboration with NATS (Prestwick).

The School of Design and Informatics is the home of Abertay’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in games, digital arts, cybersecurity and applied computer science. Abertay was the first university to offer degrees in Computer Games Technology and Ethical Hacking, and the School continues to be recognised as an international leader in its fields. The School has long-established professional links with Dundee’s thriving computer games community and the UK's cybersecurity community.

The Division of Games and Arts is home to Abertay’s research and teaching in game design, computer arts, and sound and music for games. Academic staff in the division have pursued research on a diverse range of themes, including games with purpose, interactive design in the performing arts, experimental game jams, and game aesthetics.

KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) supports partnerships between business and universities or research organisations, placing graduates (KTP Associates) to work on innovative high profile projects. The University of Abertay and NATS are offering a rare opportunity to lead a major project hosted within an industry leading company on a collaborative Knowledge Transfer Partnership. KTP Associates have the unique opportunity to receive hands on mentoring both from a senior company employee, the Company Supervisor, and an experienced Academic related to their field, the Academic Supervisor.

The Associate will be employed by the University but will be based within the Company on a project that requires innovation / technical ability. The Associate will be supported and supervised by staff from both the Company and the University, and will based at the Company in Prestwick. The KTP Associate benefits from a tax free personal development budget (allowing them to participate in courses / professional qualifications) of £4000 and will be responsible for other budgets including, travel and consumables. Additionally the KTP Associate will have the opportunity to register as a Masters by Research student.

You will have skills in game design and game technology to develop software to assist in games-based training and to undertake research in usability.

Reporting to your Company Supervisor at NATS and line manager at the University, you will specify, design, develop, test, deploy and evaluate prototype games to assist in the training of Air Traffic Controllers. You will undertake research into the usability aspects of such games in order to inform their design and deployment.

The role requires an effective communicator who can work under guidance from both company and university supervisors but also work independently on development of game prototypes.
