EXERCISE COPE TIGER

Korat and Udon Thani air bases, Thailand

  • A multinational joint Thai/U.S. sponsored exercise, between Thailand, Singapore, and the United States.
  • Approximately 600 Service members from the United States and 600 combined from Singapore and Thailand
  • Exercises focused on conducting close-air support, air refueling, search and rescue operations and mission planning.

EXERCISE PASSEX

Kure, Japan

USS Guardian (MCM 5) and USS Patriot (MCM 7) returned to Sasebo Feb. 17 after a successful three-day passing exercise (PASSEX) with Japanese maritime assets.
The two U.S. forward-deployed mine countermeasures ships departed Kure, Japan Feb. 15 after a brief port visit and joined two Yaeyama-class minesweepers from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, JDS Tsushima (MSO 302) and JDS Hachijou (MSO 303).

EXERCISE TOWEX

Sea of Japan (?)

USS Safeguard (ARS 50) conducted a towing exercise (TOWEX) March 15 with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Ship JS Amakusa (AMS 4303).
The two ships conducted the operations to increase proficiency in towing, and building stronger ties with one another through joint training.

Langkawi, Malaysia

EXERCISE PASSEX

USS Chosin (CG 65) and USS Milius (DDG 69) departed Langkawi, Malaysia, May 18 after a three-day Passing Exercise (PASSEX) with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and a five-day port visit.
During the joint exercise, Chosin and Milius crewmembers worked together with two Royal Malaysian Naval warships and two Royal Malaysian Air Force F-18 aircraft for small-caliber weapons firing, air defense exercises, a surface search and destroy exercise, tactical maneuvering and underway replenishment approaches.

EXERCISE CARAT 2007 – Philippines

Zamboanga and Basilan, Philippines

Exercises included amphibious operations, diving and salvage operations.

The U.S. Navy’s CARAT group includes the USS Harpers Ferry, The USS Ford and the USS Jarrett. 1400 U.S. personnel also took part in the exercise including military doctors and Seebees.

2 week Exercise

Anderson Air Force Base, Guam

The Japanese and American air forces conducted a 2 week bilateral exercise. It was the first time the Japanese allowed their F-2s to participate in a drill outside of Japan

July 17

EXERCISE CARAT 2007 - Singapore

Changi Naval Base

The Singapore armed forces and the US navy and coast guard participated in an annual 2 week drill. It involved 13 ships, a submarine, fixed and rotary wing aircraft and 1500 personnel.

EXERCISE SEACAT

Strait of Malacca

SEACAT 2007 is a weeklong at-sea exercise designed to highlight the value of information sharing and multi-national coordination within a scenario that gives participating navies practical maritime-interception training opportunities. Naval forces from Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the United States are participating. Indonesia sent liaison officers to observe the exercise. U.S. Navy ships participating include USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), USS Jarrett (FFG 33) and USS Ford (FFG 54).

EXERCISE ULCHI FOCUS LENS

Osan Air Base

The US and Korea conducted their annual joint-military exercises. These exercises involved some 10,000 personnel.

September 4 – September 7

EXERCISE MALABAR

Bay of Bengal

The navies of the United States, India, Japan, Australia and Singapore took part in this military exercise. The exercise included more than two dozen figates, destroyers and submarines, two US aircraft carriers and one Indian carrier, plus significant numbers of land-based vehicles.
