Unfinished Business:

The Faithful Freedom Flags project is being promoted and finalized by Bernie Kuta and Joe Dempsey. The next order of business for this project will be to indentify who will be involved in their placement.

FN Dave Stauber and Deacon Ed met with Dennis Hughes of the Colorado Red Cross Sunday February 5th to discuss our Assembly and Council participation in assisting with the Second Responders when needed. The Red Cross has two mass feeding vehicles in use; may need 5 -10 Knights who could be available at a moment’s notice. Knights 14398 from Englewood are involved within about a fifty mile radius. The Red Cross does not need us to fund this as they have credit cards which would be used to purchase meals or other needed supplies. Deacon Ed stated that the frequency of these events would likely be 2 – 3 times per year. Our Knights would not be required to go through formal training, however, there is an on-the-job sort of orientation required to participate. Within our dioceses there is a disaster approximately every eighteen months in which there was a need for volunteers.

The Red Cross uses the Douglas County Sheriff Station as an evacuation point and Mountain Vista High School as an evacuation shelter. The process is very formal and is handled by the Red Cross chain of command. Deacon Ed spoke of his experience being involved with disasters while at Corpus Christi and Our Lady of the Pines parishes and stated that it was very rewarding to be able to help those people in their time of need.

Discussion—Do we need a trailer? We could use the Knights trailer and assemble a Go Kit. This idea was brought up at the Council meeting in February. A contact person would need to be identified for use by the Red Cross. Peter Hjelmstad will pass around a signup sheet at the monthly Council meeting.

Trustees reported as follows:No report-

New Business:

FN Dave Stauber reported receiving an invitation from Mark Solome to join the Denver Metro Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Their goal is to foster involvement between Denver councils and surrounding councils.

Discussion—may be a good thing to have their participation in some of our activities such as the 4th of July parade, Faithful Freedom Flags, the Annual Gala and other Council activities. Bruce Allen shared that the support is low for our current activities and therefore this new commitment might further burden our members. The membership for this group is open to all Knights rather than just the 4th Degree Assembly. John Wheeler suggested reading their meeting minutes for the past 6 – 9 months to see what they have discussed or accomplished before we decide whether to join. Terry Sandrock offered that membership might be useful to increase involvement in our events such as the Campout, Gala, 4th of July, etc.

The Boy Scout charter was not renewed so the Boy Scouts will not likely be involved in the Faithful Freedom Flag project moving forward.

For the good of the order:Dave Stauber, Denny and Mary Lou Wilwerding, Ian Baeher, Ralph Anzur, Meg Bellizio, Christine Chavez, Kent Allen, Megan Hjelmstad, Eric Cope, Cherise, Maddie and Alex Bower Family, JoAnne Hesson, the Keaty family, the Greg Staley family.

The closing prayerwas offered by David Caton from the Knights to Christ.
