March Newsletter
2017
Here are a few updates on what’s been happening over the last few weeks and some information about things to come… I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a busy term! J
Pupil News;
Pupil Council
Our Pupil Council have been busy undertaking a wide range of activities in support of making improvements within our school.
The Council have now planned and implemented their second round of ‘Fantastic Friday Clubs’ with minimum support from staff, consulting and gathering information from their peers in order to provide activities of interest for everyone to enjoy at ‘Golden Time’. So far, the ICT club have added posts to our website and the Sports club have enjoyed a variety of outdoor games. The Pupil Council have also conducted a survey among their peers, selected and budgeted for a variety of new Table Top games due to arrive this week. This money was raised from the recent ‘Wear Your Club to School Day’, so well done and thank you everyone!
This second round of clubs includes; Sports, ICT, Art and Crafts, Freestyle and Table Top and will run for the next four weeks, after which time all pupils will be asked for further feedback and choose their next club.
Wider Achievements and Recognition
Thank you to everyone who has sent in an ‘OSCAR’ Nomination (Out of School Club and Achievement Recognition) over the last few weeks which have been shared at our weekly Wednesday assemblies. It has been great to find out more about our talented children and to date our pupils have been recognised for their skills in Show-jumping, Football and Hip-hop dance, to name but a few.
Please keep encouraging your child to seek out a nomination which can be completed by parents, family members or even club instructors. Should you need more nomination forms, we have a ready supply for children to bring home and then returned to school.
School Clubs and Activities;
Choir
Our school choir continue to meet on Tuesday afternoons and has grown since beginning in February! The Choir will give their first performance at our assembly on World Book Day and will be working on songs to perform at the Easter Service over the remaining weeks of this term. If your child (P4-P7) would like to join the Choir, it’s still not too late! Ask Mrs Hepburn for a permission form as soon as possible.
Sports Coach Academy
As our Dodge Ball club comes to an end this Friday, we’d like to say a big thank you to the ‘Sports Coach Academy’ from the Grammar who deliver the sessions for our senior pupils. There will be more clubs to follow, so watch this space.
Music Update
Following a number of enquiries regarding the progression of music within school following our fundraiser earlier in the school term, we would like to update you with a couple of pieces of information. Music tuition is continuing to progressing very well. We have two pupils continuing with woodwind in Primary 6.
Windows of Learning
Our P1-4 pupils will be visiting New Lanark on 13th March in conjunction with the Windows of Learning Project. Further to our previous newsletter and flyers. Please remember that there are a number of events taking place in the community in support of this exciting venture including children and adult workshops aimed at exploring the principles and character of Robert Owen. Spaces are still available at the adult workshops commencing on 3rd March, with a second block of workshops beginning 21st March. Please contact us if you need any more information or follow the link on our website: www.kirkfieldbank-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk
World Book Day
We had a lovely costume parade at assembly to have a good look at the wonderful variety of characters who came to school for World Book Day today. Photos will be posted on the website very soon and a huge ‘well done’ to all of you involved in costume designing! Please find a £1 Book Token in celebration of World Book Day for your child/ren to spend at the Book Fayre (see below for more info.) or at your local Bookstore.
Read, Write, Count for P1-3
A small booklet called ‘What’s Your Child’s Dream?’ has been enclosed with this newsletter if your child is in Primary 1, 2 or 3. Published by FutureME, it contains information about activities you can do with your child to help them identify their dreams for the future. There are also instructions for sharing your child’s creation with a giant ‘dream wall’ for Scotland. Bookbug bags for P1 and RWC bags for P2 and P3 will be organised soon. For more information on ways to practice Literacy skills with your child, you might like to visit the Read, Write, Count website at: www.readwritecount.scot
School Website
Our school website is continuing to evolve and blossom thanks to the hard work of Louise Hepburn. Please keep checking in to find out what we’ve been up to and remember it’s a work in progress – thank you for your continuing patience! If you have any ideas for additional information you’d like to see shared on the site, please let us know. Please also add a comment to any posts that you wish too. You can do so by clicking on a picture, entering an email address (which will never be made public) and then making your comment. All comments are moderated by Mrs. Hepburn and so will not appear on the site immediately, but please do not worry as she checks for comments nearly every day.
A couple of friendly reminders and updates…
‘Little Friends’
Can we please remind all parents to regularly check for signs of head lice as we continue to work hard at reducing the spread! Many thanks for your support with this matter J
Indoor Shoes
Please ensure that your child has a suitable pair of indoor shoes to change into when in school. For safety reasons including Fire Drills, please do not provide slippers as indoor shoes. Over the next couple of days we will carry out a spot check and send home any footwear that looks in need of a ‘refresh’!
Mobile Phones
A number of children have been bringing their phones into school. For your information, and in-case you were unaware, we will continue to store these in the office during the school day and return them to pupils before home time.
