Dear Parents,

Firstly, welcome back! I hope that you all enjoyed their half-term break. It was a pleasure to welcome staff and pupils back to school and to begin our learning again together. We have started our work on PEACE this week, which is the Christian value we are focusing on. What does PEACE mean to you?

Worshipping together:

Staff would like to warmly invite parents and grandparents to join us for worship on the dates specified below. This is NOT a pupil performance, rather how we come together every day as a school family. This is an opportunity for you to have a better insight into school life. Please can you let Mrs Shannon know (via email) if you are attending on the dates set out below.

Thursday 9th November-Year 4 (i.e. for the parents/grandparents from Year 4)

Monday 20th November –Reception

Wednesday 22nd November – Year 5 and 6

Thursday 23rd November – Year 1

Thursday 14th November – Year 3

Headteacher liaison:

Mrs Armstrong and I have arranged dates in the school diary to meet and discuss our transition period together. Mrs Armstrong will be around school next Wednesday during parents evening, I know she will be warmly welcomed by us all.

Parents Evening:

If you have not yet arranged a parents evening for your child, please get in touch with school to do so. During this evening you will have the chance to look through books and leave a short positive comment for pupils to read the following morning. Please do not take books home-we need them, we have lots of work to do!

Reading Challenge:

Miss White is delighted with the support and enthusiasm pupils and parents have shown towards this new initiative. Keep reading and collect those stickers!

Art and Craft club:

Staff, Mrs Whitfield and Mrs Grimshaw, and pupils looked like they were having great fun tonight during club. I cannot wait to see your creations.

Year 5 and 6 Maths Challenge:

Mrs Blaylock and Mrs Stewart received an invite for 6 pupils by Caldew to join them for a Maths Challenge day on Wednesday 15th November. Good luck to you all!

Handwriting certificates:

Mr Reed is to announce the above certificate today in celebration assembly. To achieve your pen licence pupils must show: joined legible and neat handwriting across all school books. The pen license will then allow pupils to use a handwriting pen in class.

Nursery and Reception 2018 Open school times:

Mrs Workman and Mrs Grimshaw would like to invite new pupils into school on:

Tuesday 21st November from 9am -10am

Monday 27th November from 2pm-3pm

Please contact the school office to let us know that you are coming to look around. A great opportunity to see our school during the working day.

Year 5 and 6 visit:

On Wednesday 8th November Year 5 and 6 alongside Mrs Blaylock and Miss Hill will visit the crown courts in Carlisle linked to our P.S.H.E. work.

Phunky Foods assembly:

Gill from Phunky Foods will join us on Thursday 9th November to promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles in line with government guidance. Thanks to Mrs Grimshaw for organising this.

PTA Movie night:

Thursday 16th November. More details are to be sent out from our P.T.A.

Children in Need Day:

A reminder that Friday 17 November is CIN day. Further details are to follow from Mrs Workman.

Message from Ooh Club:

We hope that you all enjoyed reading our first newsletter of the school year (which you should have received on the last Friday before half term).

Wehave a coloured copy on display on our notice-board for you to see too. We have some lovely activities planned this term at After School Club, so whynot come and join us?

Every Wednesdayin November we have Linda helping our children design and create their very own personalised Christmas stocking, while giving them the chance to learn some basic sewingtechniques using a combination of fabrics. Linda is very creative and talented-have a look at her example Christmas stocking on the notice-board.Every Monday afternoon- physical fun and games with Carlisle United in the Community (during coldand wet weather we use the Village Hall).

If you have any questions about Ooh Club please do call in and see us, we are open every morning before school.

Wedo have spaces available if you would like to book your child into Ooh Club whilst you attend Parents evening
