1. GENERAL OUTLINE

The Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank (ANCBB) Collection Programme is a collaboration between Anthony Nolan and participating NHS Trust maternity hospitals including Kings College Hospital (KCH). The aim is to consent eligible women into the programme to donate the cord blood, which is in the umbilical cord and placenta and is normally discarded following the birth of their baby. Within the blood are stem cells which can be used to help people diagnosed with leukaemia and other blood disorders. Anthony Nolan currently holds the UK register for volunteer adult bone marrow donors and has established the ANCBB to store cord blood that can also be used for stem cell transplants.

The goal of the ANCBB Collection Programme is to expand the national public cord blood bank, which can be accessed world wide, and could benefit people with conditions such as leukaemia. Stem cells, which are found in the cord blood, are easily collected, processed and stored and can then be transplanted into patients diagnosed with leukaemia, or other blood cancers, through a simple transfusion giving them the chance of a complete recovery.

We are looking to recruit one full time Dedicated Collector to work as part of the ANCBB collection team at KCH. Based primarily on the labour ward, the main responsibilities of the post holders will be to conduct the cord blood collections and to consent appropriate women when they present onto the ward. They will work along side a team of 4 other Dedicated Collectors. Full details outlined below.

This is a contract* for the period of one year initially with Anthony Nolan and an Honorary contract with KCH to be reviewed at approximately three and nine months following appointment (and will be subject to a 6month probationary period). It is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to be a part of this amazing and exciting programme.

The successful applicant will have a full induction into both Anthony Nolan and KCH
