Kingfisher FFA Member Wins State FFA Agribusiness Speech Contest

STILLWATER, Okla. —Madelyn Gerken of the Kingfisher FFA Chapterwon first place in the agribusiness division of the 2018State FFA Speech Contest during the Oklahoma FFA Leadership Development Events at Oklahoma State UniversityApril 27.

The agribusiness division allows FFA members to give a six- to eight-minute prepared speech about topics such as cooperatives, sales, service, journalism, communications, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, commodities, futures, hedging and advertising.

Amarie Griffeth of Cushing FFA, Toby Denny of Chattanooga FFA, Bree Kisling of Chisholm FFA and JaciDetrick of Newcastle FFAplaced second through fifth, respectively.

The agribusiness division is sponsored on the state level by Sonic, America’s Drive-In, and Steve and Merrie Lynn Vaughan. SandRidge Energy willprovide a $1,000 state winner scholarship.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources hosts the Oklahoma FFA Leadership Development Events each April. Trophies and medals are sponsored by Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. With nearly 27,000 members and 360 chapters, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association.
