New Homework
See the attached homework paper for new homework assignments for your child. Every week a new homework sheet will be attached to this newsletter. Also, please remember to read for 15 minutes with your child each day using student readers, library books, or books from home. Please write the minutes that you read down in your child’s agenda. This week’s popcorn words are: when, them, because, from. This week’s math homework is Practice Page 7-7on page 51 and Practice Page7-8 on page 52 in the interactive Homework Workbook.
Please make sure all homework is completed and turned in on Friday. Also, please make sure you are writing down on the Book-It Form the minutes that you read with your child.
Conferences
The end of the second grading period was January 20th. The half-way mark for the school year is an excellent time to revisit student progress with parents. A conference request form will be coming home from your child’s teacher this month. If you are not able to attend the conference, please let your child’s teacher know so it can be rescheduled.

Starfall.com is a great website for your child to use at home to help him or her practice literacy skills such as letter identification, letter sounds, popcorn words, and reading. / Valentine’s Day Celebration
Students will exchange Valentine cards on Tuesday February 14th. We are asking that your child only fill in the from portion of their Valentine. This will make it easier to pass out the Valentine’s. Please send your Valentine’s in by Monday February 13th. We have 22 students in our class. We will also be having a celebration on the afternoon of the 14th about 12:45. Please send in the item that was requested for our celebration by Monday February 13th. Thanks!
AR Reading Program
The Accelerated Reading Program will help promote interest and growth in your child's reading ability. Your child will read an AR book and take a test on the book. Students must read the book and take the test independently. The goal for kindergarten students is 4.5 points for the 3rd 9 weeks. Your child will receive rewards based on the number of points he or she has earned. For your child to be successful in this program, he or she needs to know about 50-75 popcorn words. Please help us at home by reviewing the popcorn words that your child has learned this year. We will be starting students in this program when we feel that they are ready and that they will be successful.
Kindergarten War of the Words
Thanks for helping. Most of our class studied the words and we won the pizza party for January!
Please continue to practice the February words with your child at home. This contest will end at the end of the month. Let’s see who the winner will be!
Hand Sanitizer-New Policy
Students are no longer allowed to use hand sanitizer unless it is dispensed by an adult. Please do not allow your child to bring any hand sanitizer to school. We have some in the classroom that will be dispensed by a teacher when needed. Thank you!
Parent Tips: Ways you can help: Your child needs to be able to say the months of the year in order. They also need to be able to tell me what month comes before and after a certain month. Example: What month comes before April? Ways to help: Ordinal positions. In a row of objects up to ten, your child needs to be able to tell me what comes 6th, what comes 9th, etc.
Thanks!
