Dear Parents

The March Madness Scrip Contest is running this week and next! If you have not had a chance to purchase Scrip to help our class’ participation in the competition, do so now! This is the perfect opportunity to fulfill your family’s fundraising obligation.

Student-led conferences are next Tuesday and Wednesday (March 28 & 29). We are working away this week to get ready for our meeting time next week. I hope you are able to sign up for your conference soon. I noticed that only half of our families are signed up as of today.

Please see the attached letter about North City Water District’s Fix-a-Leak Water Challenge. These kits went home last week. If you are able to participate, please return the completed kit to school by March 28th.

Our field trip to the Imagine Children’s Museum is next Thursday, March 30th. This is a very fun, all day field trip. Students must wear their uniform, pack a sack lunch with a drink, and bring their car/booster seat. I will be sending an email to parent drivers tomorrow.

Our Learning

Math:Instead of two-dimensional shapes, we took a deeper look at composing and decomposing numbers 11-19 last week. We will finish up our first math book of the year today! This will be coming home by the end of the week. We will begin our second, and final, math book with 3-dimensional shapes (cone, cube, cylinder and sphere). Your child will be able to tell you if each shape can roll, stack, and/or slide. Please continue to review addition and subtraction facts to 5 at home.

Phonics:We are still working with our third unit of the Superkids Club which focuses on the letter Nn and the sound /n/ that you hear at the beginning of no. We are learning that the Superkids are enjoying their club but are learning to solve problems like what to do when everyone is trying to have their idea heard. No is a new memory word that we have added to our list. Ms. Yarno has current memory words lists on her website.

Writing: Our focus is on the formation ofNn. We will continue to practice forming all letters and our first and last names. We are also focusing on sentence formation with capital letters and ending punctuation (periods, question marks, and exclamation points).

Religion: We will continue to discuss our Lenten promises and the Lenten season. We will begin learning about Jesus’ Lenten journey through the Stations of the Cross.

Second Step:We have been practicing our skills for learning (focus attention, listen, and use self-talk) to help us learn the best that we can. This week will we discuss being assertive. Students will know that being assertive involves using assertive posture and tone of voice. We will also discuss that assertive, respectful communication is the best way to ask for help.

IB Learner Profile Attribute of the Week:We are learning aboutbeing open-mindedduring March. During our learning of this important attribute, we will discuss how to respect others.
