Our Kindergarten Curriculum

Reading/Phonics: We use Bob Jones University Press curriculum. The phonics program provides students with the tools to help them become successful readers. The students begin to read as they are taught letter recognition and sounds, blends, and two vowel word rules. They learn a series of sight words and are given opportunities to practice their reading skills with books that are included in the curriculum.

Handwriting: Bob Jones handwriting teaches correct formation of capital and lower case letters. Holding the pencil correctly is stressed. Students begin to write words, sentences, and their first and last names.

Bible: Christian moral and spiritual values are taught in the curriculum and are interwoven throughout each day’s activities in an age appropriate manner. Character traits such as obedience, friendship, and perseverance are covered. A Beka Alphabet Bible verses are taught daily with children memorizing 26 verses in the year. Weekly Chapel offers opportunity for the kindergartners to worship God with the older students in our school.

Math: Bob Jones Math curriculum uses a fun farm theme where students are involved in active learning as they use manipulatives, make graphs, and do probability experiments. Key concepts of counting to 100, measurement, shapes, operations and functions, estimating, graphing, time, and money are all covered.

ScienceSocial Studies: Monthly units and themes are used to help the students gain an understanding and curiosity about the world around them. Martin Luther King Day, Groundhog Day, 100th Day of School, Presidents’ Day, Recycling, Farm Animals, Butterflies, The Five Senses, Dental Health, and The Weather, are just a sampling of the themes covered.
