CECIL DAY LEWIS LITERARY BURSARY AWARD

The Cecil Day Lewis Literary Bursary Award is open to both established and emerging writers and critics in all genres. Based of the recommendation of adjudicators, this years award has been divided into two awards :

(A) An award of €2,000 for professional writers to augment their professional practice, particularly research towards the production of new writings
(B) An award of €1,500 for emerging writers for professional development/training opportunities. e.g. Participation in a professional or post-graduate course, mentoring, or other initiative, which will expand existing practice

CONDITIONS

Applications are accepted on the official application form only.

Applicants must be originally from or currently resident in CountyKildare.

Applications will only be accepted from individual artists

As the bursary will be awarded on the basis of information supplied in the application, candidates should ensure that sufficient information is presented

Applications for formal or informal training should include details about the individual or organisation providing the training

Grant aid provided by Kildare County Council must be acknowledged in all publicity material associated with the project. Council logos are available from the Arts Service. Kildare County Council reserves the right to publicise the awarding of the bursary. Failure to acknowledge KildareCounty Council appropriately may deem the grant invalid and grant aid received may need to be refunded to KildareCounty Council. All successful applications will receive a copy of Kildare County Council logos, along with the document ‘Requirements for acknowledging Kildare County Council funding’ via email. Please include a valid email address in your application.

Successful candidates are required to provide a short written report / update to the arts service on or before 31st October 2017, whether the project has been completed or not. Failure to do so may deem the grant invalid and grant aid received may need to be refunded to KildareCounty Council.

It is envisaged that the awardee(s) will be presented with the award at the Kildare Readers Festival, Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge (13th – 15th October) 2017

Applications for work in retrospect will not be considered

Awards will be made by an independent adjudication panel

All applicants will be advised of Councils decisions in writing.

The payment of a grant is not taken as an indication that the equivalent of any grant will be made to the organiser on another occasion.

All applications must be accompanied by
A current biography and/ or cv, outlining details of career to date
A statement of interest outlining the intentions or specific body of new or distinct work for which the bursary award would be used, including a time scale
An excerpt of recent work, published, unpublished, or work in progress (of not less than 10 pages)
