Hours / We are recruiting for a female youth worker to support the delivery of our Sharp Minds, programme in the first instance,three evenings a week, but with additional responsibility for the delivery of our Talent Match contract. Sharp Minds responsibilities will include supporting young females with sensitive issues as well as supporting the wider mixed group who are experiencing mental health issues. Talent Match duties will includea combination of individual and group support to 18-24 year olds who have been out of education, employment or training for at least 12 months.
We require a female worker to provide a range of provision and support for our young women with sensitive issues.
Payment / The salary attributable to the post is:
for unqualified workers the Young People First salary grade E stages 1 – 7: £19,331 - £22,418 pro rata (plus 25 days holidays, plus two association days and bank holidays pro rata)
For JNC qualified workers: £23,494 - £27,246 pro rata (plus 25 days holidays, plus two association days and bank holidays pro rata)
Role / To be accountable and responsible for the delivery of specific youth work projects, programmes and services in accordance with the policies of Young People First.

  1. Establishing relationships and a style of working that will enable the young people to safely learn and develop, in accordance with the principles and values of youth work.
  2. Helping in the delivery and development of Youth work programmes and services, in close collaboration with other staff.
  3. Working with the Fundraising Team to secure funding to help to meet the youth work budget requirements; to manage and achieve targets within project budgets.
  4. Developing monitoring and evaluation for projects with young people and staff, using tools including WEMWBS, providing reports as required to the Board of Trustees and funders.
  5. Liaise with professional agencies to provide the most up-to-date support to young people and to assist with internal monitoring of young people's progression
  6. Transporting young people to and from projects and occasionally accompanying them to personal appointments
  7. Contributing to the development and marketing of Young People First courses and activities including updating the website.
  8. Promoting the participation of young people in the activities of Young People First.
  9. Tracking the progression of young people using a recognised monitoring tool. such as Outcomes Star and WEMWBS.
  10. To become involved with local and regional networks and partnerships in order to promote and develop the work of Young People First; to deliver Young People First’s services to member organisations.
  11. To manage energy within the workplace and to make Young People First as sustainable as possible.

Head Office Location

The post is based at Young People First's office situated at Jubilee House, Westlea Road, Leamington Spa, CV31 3JE.It is just outside the town centre. Young People First operates a "No Smoking" policy within its grounds, offices and vehicles. The position will involve travelling throughout Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull as well as occasional meetings elsewhere.

  5. The postholder must be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a wide range of geographical locations. Young People First owns one car. When it is not available then approved travelling expenses necessarily incurred in exercising the duties of the post will be reimbursed.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Your line manager will offer advice and support. Regular records will be made by the post holder which will be used in evaluating your work. The Sharp Minds Youth Worker will carry out regular supervision sessions with an appraisal after a satisfactory three-month probationary period and annual appraisals thereafter. The job description will be subject to regular review. The post holder will take part in Young People First's Staff Development policy. This allows for induction, managerial supervision, annual appraisal meetings, and attendance at specific skills training days to maintain their skills and knowledge to professionally undertake their duties as a Youth Worker.

A Contract of Employment will be issued within eight weeks of appointment outlining the full terms and condition of employment, which refers to specific policies and procedures in the Staff Handbook.
