SUBJECT: / JET Transportation Working Group Progress Update

On behalf of the JET Transportation Working Group, I am pleased to provide this update on the group's progress through June and the plan for the upcoming months. The Transportation Working Group will also present an update to the JET Task Force August 15, 2014.

As outlined below, our group continues to be active workingon tasks and meets every other week.

Key Action Items from our Work Plan:

  • Review of Airport Grounds, Basic Airport Transportation History, and Area Plans (completed)
  • Development of Information Sharing Site for Working Group (currently underway)
  • Development of Work Plan and Schedule for Transportation Working Group (completed)
  • Research of Best Practices from examples nationally and internationally (underway)
  • High level review of 18 communities (i.e. Salt Lake City, Vancouver, Dallas, etc.) of accomplishments and practices in transportation connections to the airport, major multimodal regional transportation centers, and innovative implementation and funding techniques (currently underway)
  • In depth review of 5 communities (not yet selected) for best practices, direct interviews with key representatives with the Working Group (upcoming)
  • Research and review of Existing Area Transportation Systems and Plans (upcoming)
  • COTA Transit System and Upcoming Service Changes
  • Active Transportation System Review (i.e. bikeways)
  • Shared Transportation Review (i.e. taxis, car sharing, etc.)
  • Inter-regional Bus System Review (i.e. Greyhound)

May 30, 2014: Organizational Meeting

June 13: Case Study and Best Practices

  • Finalized list of 18 case study communities
  • Development of case study research exercise questions

June 27: Case Study Approach

  • Discussion on timeline for deliverables

Upcoming Meetings:

July 11: Review of COTA Plans, Columbus-Chicago Rail, and Case Studies

  • High level review of 10 case studies
  • COTA presentation including an update on CRAA and COTA's recent transit plans for the airport area as well as upcoming airport service changes with the Transit System Review.
  • MORPC presentation on the Columbus to Chicago Passenger Rail initiative.

July 25: Review of ORDC Passenger and Freight Rail Network and Case Studies

  • Joint Meeting with Economic Development Working Group
  • Ohio Rail Development Commission(ORDC) Presentation by Matt Dietrich, Executive Director of ORDC
  • Breakout Session by Transportation Working Group
  • High level review of remaining case studies

August/September: Continued Review and Development of Recommendations

  • In Depth Review of 4-5 case studies including interviews with community contacts
  • Review of Financing Tools, Active Transportation, & Shared Transportation
  • Review of Inter-regional Bus System (i.e. Greyhound)
