I.OPENING OF THE MEETING

A.Call Meeting to Order

The regularmeeting of the Kings County Behavioral Health Advisory Board was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by the Chairman.

B. Introductions

There was a brief introduction of Board members, staff and guests.

  1. UNSCHEDULED APPEARANCES

Crystal Hernandez from Champions shared information on the Maternal Health Summit that will take place on 4/10 from 8-4:30 @ Koinonia Church. Register with Zeynep Timmester @ or (559-772-8144).

  1. CHAIRMAN UPDATES

Approval of Minutes

Approval of the minutes from February 23rd will be take place at the next meeting, as quorum was not met.

Bylaw Changes

The Administrative subcommittee is working on amendments to the Bylaws and will have an update in the near future.

2015 Strategic Planning Goals/Subcommittees

The Chair’s appointments to the subcommittees will be coming soon.

  1. MENTAL HEALTH/SUD/BH UPDATES

Strategic Prevention Framework Update

Johanna Perez from Behavioral Health (BH) presented on the Strategic Prevention Framework for 2015-2018 on behalf of Lupe Wong. Board members received a copy of her presentation. Johanna explained the findings from the various assessments and focus groups, including two problems and associated goals.

Kings Spirituality Organization for Wellness (KSOW)/Conference trainings

Brenda Randle (BH) gave an update from this group and also shared information on the Spirituality 101 Training (4/17, 9-4), targeting service providers and Mental Health 101 Training (4/18, 9-4), targeting the faith based community. These trainings address the spiritual and mental health connection from both perspectives to better support individuals as they seek help by using and including spirituality as a resource for wellness and recovery. Anchors Open House

Brenda Randle shared information on the upcoming Anchors (Permanent Supportive Housing) Open House to take place on April 17th from 11am-2pm. BH is working with Turning Point on other housing projects. There is a tentative plan to host an open house specifically for other apartment owners to come and see what these projects are all about in the hopes they will come on board with this community endeavor.

Disability Rights California

Brenda Randle presented information regarding Peer Self Advocacy Groups being facilitated at Anchors and the Oak Wellness Center by our local Disability Rights Californiarepresentative. Members received a copy of the English and Spanish brochures as well as a listing of subjects that can be addressed. He addresses subjects that the partners request. He can also provide training for providers on Disability Rights subjects.

  1. KINGS COUNTY COMMUNITY UPDATES
  • Brenda Randle handed out flyers-Veterans watching Fresno State Baseball and Softball for free on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Brenda Randle handed out flyers-Sister Speak which is a discussion group targeting African American women (other women are also welcome), which takes place the last Tuesday of each month with dinner served, from 6:30-8pm.

  • Joe Wright shared that April 23rd is the next Veteran Job and Resource Fair @ West Hills College. This is also open to the public.
  • Ken shared an update from the Suicide Prevention Task Force:
  • The Festival of Hope will not be happening this year, as they are in the process of strategically planning for their upcoming events.
  • Members received a copy of Recommendations for (Media) Reporting on Suicide.
  • Information on the need for LOSS (Local Outreach to Survivors of Suicide) Team members. Anyone interested in being on the team needs to first attend the Sudden and Traumatic Loss training which will take place towards the end of April.
  • Katie Arnst (BH) and Deb West will be representing Kings County at the American Association of Suicidology and participating in the Healing After Suicide Loss Conference. She hopes to bring back a report to this board.
  1. KINGS VIEW UPDATE

George Gomez has been the Compliance Specialist at Kings View for almost eight years. He discussed a state requirement that consumers verify receiving Medi-Cal services. Members received a copy of the Service Verification Form that the state has approved to use for these tracking purposes. One week out of the month, all providers will need to use this form for each of their Medi-Cal clients. The form will be compared to the scheduled appointments on a day-to-day basis. This process started in October and is going well. He has the form electronically available to providers to utilize.

  1. OAK WELLNESS CENTER UPDATE
  • The Speaker’s Bureau spoke at BH’s Enrichment Group, which went very well. They can also come to this board to speak.
  • Oak Wellness participated in a NAMI Kick-Off Luncheon to prepare for the May 23rd Walk. Tamara DeMasters is the team leader from Kings View. Donations for this walk can be given at the Oak Wellness Center.
  • Debra has the contact information for the person who would be able to come and train this board. This will be discussed further at the next board meeting.
  • Train-the-Trainer: Mental Health Boards 101 training will take place on April 17th in San Pedro. Debra will be attending and one other person from this board may also attend.
