GATHERING

Prelude

We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning.

Welcome & Announcements

Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service.

Silent Preparation for Worship

†Call to Worship - The First Word

We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name.

Minister:Praise the LORD!

People:Praise God in His sanctuary;

praise Him in His mighty heavens!

Minister:Praise Him for His mighty deeds;

People:Praise Him

according to His excellent greatness! (Psalm 150:1-2)

†Prayer for God’s Presence

†Hymn of Praise

“Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah” Hymn #110

†Corporate Confession of our Faith

Today for our confession of faith we use one of the most comforting expressions of the gospel which is found in the Heidelberg Catechism. By declaring our belief we strengthen not only our own faith, but that of those around us as we confess together as God’s people.

My only comfort in life and in death is

that I am not my own, but belong—

body and soul, in life and in death—

to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood,

and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.

He also watches over me in such a way

that not a hair can fall from my head

without the will of my Father in heaven:

in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to Him,

Christ, by His Holy Spirit,

assures me of eternal life

and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready

from now on to live for Him.

—from the Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A #1

REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL

Call to Confess Our Sins

Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

(Romans 3:23)

Silent Prayers of Confession

Hymn of Confession & Grace

“Jesus, I Come”

  1. Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,

Jesus, I come; Jesus I come.

Into Thy freedom, gladness and light,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of my sickness into Thy health,

Out of my wanting and into Thy wealth,

Out of my sin and into Thyself,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

  1. Out of my shameful failure and loss,

Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of earth’s sorrows into Thy balm,

Out of life’s storms and into Thy calm,

Out of distress into jubilant psalm,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

  1. Out of unrest and arrogant pride,

Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into Thy blessed will to abide,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,

Out of despair into raptures above,

Upward forever on wings like a dove,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

  1. Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,

Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into the joy and light of Thy home,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of the depths of ruin untold,

Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold,

Ever Thy glorious face to behold,

Jesus, I come to Thee.

Words of Grace

…and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins. (Romans 3:24-25)

Believe the gospel! By faith alone in the work of Christ alone, we are declared right with the Father and our sins are forgiven!

†Grace Makes Us Gracious:

Welcoming & Greeting One Another

Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.(Romans 15:7)

†Hymn of Celebration

“Fairest Lord Jesus” Hymn #170

Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Tim Bailey

(Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

HEARING GOD SPEAK

†Scripture Reading Revelation 2:1-7 p.1028

Minister: This is the Word of the Lord!

People:Thanks be to God!

Message Ruling Elder Michael Collins

The Model Church

RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE

Offering

Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs.

They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you.

(Deuteronomy 16:16–17)

Hymn of Response

“Faith of Our Fathers!” Hymn #570

DEPARTING

†Benediction - The Last Word

God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands.

†Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731

One of our elders will be available for prayer at the front

of the sanctuary immediately following the service.
