Guidelines on Remedial Tutors

Article 1 The Guidelines are formulated to improve the learning performance of KMU students effectively and create learning atmosphere in the campus.

Article 2 The so-called “remedial tutor” indicated in the Guidelines refers to the undergraduates or postgraduates having taken the Remedial Tutor Training Course and obtained the qualifications of remedial tutor.

Article 3 Eligibility for training: The students eligible to take the training course aforesaid must be currently the KMU undergraduate sophomores or above or postgraduates having obtained excellent academic results (with academic results ranked the first 20% in class in the previous semester), or nominated by their teachers.

Article 4 Training and conferment of certificate:

1. To achieve the basic knowledge and skills of remedial tutors, remedial tutors have to take part in the related activities of remedial tuition knowledge and skills held by KMU. They are assisted to understand the spirit, practice key points and tuition ways of the Remedial Tutor System, and enhance their capabilities.

2. Only those students having attended all sessions of the entire training course held by KMU may apply for conferment of Certificate of Remedial Tutor.

3. Remedial tutors should know the revised contents of the related stipulations of KMU Remedial Tutor System of each semester, and implement in accordance with the revised stipulations.

Article 5 Application procedures:

1. Teachers or the person-in-charge of the Division of Learning Enhancement shall consider the actual academic tuition needs of each individual student, and then fill out the Application Form of Remedial Tutor on the information system of KMU. After the related supervisors have examined the applications, all these applications are submitted to the Division of Learning Enhancement, Office of Academic Affairs for examination, approval and implementation.

2. Depending on the actual need of tuition for national examination subjects, the departments with such need may fill in the application form and submit it to the Division of Learning Enhancement for examination.

Article 6 Duties of remedial tutor:

1. Provide personalized learning advice and academic tuition according to the needs of different departments in each semester.

2. Before the 5th day of each month, each remedial tutor has to submit the previous month’s Working Hours Sheet and Student Attendance Sheet of academic tuition, both having approval signatures from the teachers, to the Office of Academic Affairs for approval.

3. Cooperate with the related affairs of the Office of Academic Affairs.

Article 7 Working hours and wage standard:

1. The calculation of the monthly working hours of each remedial tutor is based on the actual working hours of the remedial tutor. A general remedial tutor can have 40 working hours maximum, and an honorable remedial tutor can have 50 working hours maximum. Wages are paid according to the following standard:

(1) Undergraduates: Calculated at the hourly minimum wage approved by the Ministry of Labor (simply referred to as “the Ministry,” hereinafter).

(2) Postgraduates of Master Program: Calculated at 1.5 times of the hourly minimum wage approved by the Ministry.

(3) Postgraduates of Doctoral Program: Calculated at 2.5 times of the hourly minimum wage approved by the Ministry.

(4) Honorable remedial tutor: Calculated at 2.5 times of the hourly minimum wage approved by the Ministry. The selection, qualifications and maximum numbers of honorable remedial tutors shall be in accordance with the “Guidelines on Awarding of Academic Excellence Honor.” The excess of honorable remedial tutors shall have their wages calculated at the standard of undergraduates.

2. The fund required for remedial tutors shall be supported by the academic-related awards and grants plan of the Ministry of Education as well as the related funds of KMU.

Article 8 Assessment and rewards:

1. At the end of each semester all remedial tutors should be assessed by their teachers on “Remedial Tutor Assessment Forms,” which should obtain approval seals from the Chiefs of the respective Departments (Divisions) and the Chiefs of Colleges (Centers), and then submitted to the Division of Learning Enhancement, Office of Academic Affairs for examination.

2. The remedial tutors having passed the assessment shall be given Certificate of Work Service issued by the Office of Academic Affairs. Excellent remedial tutors shall be selected and presented with rewards.

Article 9 Having been examined and approved at the academic affairs meeting, submitted to the President and achieving the President’s approval, these Guidelines are announced and implemented. Any amendments to the Guidelines shall also be processed in the same way.
