KAMPALA JUNIOR TEAM PROFILE:
Back Ground
Kampala Junior Team (KJT) is a registered community based Organization for disadvantaged children, situated in Kisenyi II parish, Kampala central division. It is registered with Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) under Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) to develop youth football from the grass root in Uganda.
It was formed in 2003 to identify and develop talent among kids aged 5 to 18 years that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. We started with eight (8) children and currently we have signed up Four Hundred (400) children both boys and girls who comes from all parts of Uganda, 300 of whom are Orphans/street kids while 100 have both parents. We organize them into sports and other activities to avoid crime, AIDS/HIV and to promote their education. We have been successful in assimilating the kids into society in a positive behavior.
VISION
“To help the disadvantaged talented children in sports to be good future citizens that can benefit the country”
Honestly, we witnessed a big number of disadvantaged kids [street kids, orphans and kids from poor families].After that we discovered that no one could come up and help these kids yet they had different talents which can gather them together and enjoy life. So we decided to come up with a vision of forming Kampala Junior Team [KJT] to build and develop their talents through sports activities.
MISSION
To change these kids from a distressed [sad] life to a joyful life through training them different sports activities.
Statement of Need
KJT is one of Uganda’s pioneer partners for the development of youth through sports activities, identification and promoting youth skills. In 2003, we recognized that the general decline in standards of sports in Uganda was as a result of the absence of youth skills development program to sustain sports as well as the lack of adequate professional assistance.
KJT realized then that it could begin at the grassroots of sports development with the 5-18 year age group category. The Academy has a number of games and sports disciplines (Football, Swimming, Basketball , Volleyball, Acrobatics, Art and Craft and Music and drama) has been able to recruit and train exceptional talents in the various disciplines especially in the area of football development
