Kamal Thapa warns of another conflict

KAVRE, Nov 11 - Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Kamal Thapa, said on Monday that there was danger of "new phase of conflict" in the country due to irresponsible activities of the main political parties.

"The possible second conflict will create anarchy and uncertainty, which might breed authoritarianism one more time in the country," he said.

Speaking at a programme organised by his party in Banepa, Thapa said such authoritarians could be the Maoists or another power that would defeat them.

"The defective peace process and the Maoists' continued attachment to violence are gradually pushing the country toward conflict," he argued. "It's upsetting as Maoists are yet to shun the path of violence and show remorse about the past; but are still proud of whatever they did."

The erstwhile Home Minister during former king Gyanendra's direct rule also warned that possible conflict would cost the people dearly, worse than what they underwent during the decade long Maoist insurgency.

"Democracy has been in the ultra-leftist trap, which is eventually increasing the risk of the country's disintegration," he said, adding that his party, however, would exert pressure to prevent such a situation.

Advocating the relevance of monarchy citing geographical, social economic and cultural set up of the country, he insisted that resurrection of this institution would be possible if people supported it.

"Our party would inculcate in people the unique national identity-- democracy with monarchy and Hindu kingdom-- which are also the main bases of our party," he said.
