QUESTION OF THE WEEK

/

AssessmentCalendar

Q:

/ Is there a school in your district that requires night or weekend testing availability to administer the End-of-Course field tests? /

In this Issue:

A:

/ As Kentucky prepares to transition from primarily paper-based testing to computer-based or online testing, there are new opportunities for test security. Pearson’s online testing system, TestNav 8, can be turned on and off as needed. This functionalitylimits access to the test.
Limiting access to tests is essential for keeping tests confidential and secure. Therefore, during the upcoming end-of-course field test, the TestNav 8 system will be available during the typical school day and closed during times outside the typical school day.
For the system to be available at night or on weekends during the EOC field test, the Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) needs detailed information. If a school(s) in your district requires night or weekend testing to administer the end-of-course field assessments, please complete theEOC Testing Windows for Night School and Weekend Testing form. Please complete the form by Friday, March 30.If you do not have a school in your district that needs night or weekend testing, there is no need to complete the form.
OAA staff will contact DACs who complete the form for additional school information. OAA will work with DACs and Pearson to create appropriate windows for testing. / ACT Customer Satisfaction Survey

K-PREP ERRORS CORRECTED IN GRADE 5 TEST ADMINISTRATOR MANUAL (TAM)

A mistake in the testing time was found in the 2018 K-PREP Grade 5 Test Administrator’s Manual (TAM). Below is the correct version. The time is correct in the Testing Times Chart and throughout the script. The online Grade 5 TAMhas been corrected and is now available for use in developing the test schedule. Pearson is reprinting the Grade 5 TAM reflecting this correction and it should be available with the test material shipments.

DAC Spotlight

Currently, Boone County has approximately 20,700 students enrolled in preschool through grade twelve, and more than 3,000 employees [1,554 certified staff, 1,271 classified staff (i.e., bus drivers, cooks, custodians, teaching assistants, and student support staff), and 549 substitute teachers].
The focus in the district stems from its strategic plan initiated in 2015.
Mission: Representing and in partnership with shareholders, the Boone County School District recognizes that all children can learn and dedicates itself to providing a challenging educational environment that allows each student to achieve to his or her highest potential as a learner and citizen.
Goals: All learners will demonstrate the 21st century skills and knowledge to prepare them for success in college, career and life. Learners will develop the leadership and character skills needed to become productive, compassionate, thriving global citizens. Students will learn through active engagement, collaboration and exploration of personal interests, talents and ambitions. Teachers and students will use inventive technology and 21st century tools to enhance learning. The District will utilize effective process and performance management strategies to provide resources, and will engage the community in understanding and supporting the plan.
One highlight from the district is the Ignite Institute which is scheduled to open the 2019-2020 school year. “The goal of Ignite Institute is threefold: to open a world of possibilities for students through science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics; to fill the workforce pipeline with creative and educated workers for the future; and to help make the Tri-State a magnet for high-value industries, enabling it to compete globally and elevating opportunity for all in the region.” The school will open initially for grades 9 through 12, with a capacity to serve 1,000 students. It will be public, free and inclusive. Organizers envision it serving students throughout Northern Kentucky and, with additional private support and funding, the expectation is it will serve students from urban to rural areas throughout the Tri-State. END-OF-COURSE (EOC) FIELD TEST RESOURCES AVAILABLE

Several resources are now available to support the implementation of the upcoming EOC field tests. The TestNav 8 Tutorial, practice tests in Algebra II, Biology and English II and a guide for creating test sessions will assist in the administration of the field tests.
TestNav 8 Tutorial
The TestNav 8 Tutorial will help students learn to navigate the TestNav 8 system and practice with the tools that will be available as they test. The tutorial will guide students in using the forward/backward navigation arrows, pointer and answer eliminator tools, calculators, text boxes, scroll bar, etc.
Having students complete the tutorial is encouraged. Students may use the tutorial as many times as necessary to become familiar with the testing system. Because the link is non-secure and URL-based, students may even access the tutorial at home or at the library.
The TestNav 8 Tutorial is located on the EOC webpage of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) website, and on the Related Links sidebar of the landing page at PearsonAccessnext , prior to logging in.
EOC Practice Tests
The EOC Practice Tests will give students the opportunity to engage with the various test item types they will encounter on the field tests (multiple choice, multiple select, short answer, extended response and essay). Links to the practice tests are included below, on the Related Links sidebar of the landing page at PearsonAccessnext , prior to logging in, and on the End-of-Course page of the KDE website.
  • Algebra II Practice Test
  • Biology Practice Test
  • English II Practice Test
Creating Test Sessions Guide
The Creating Test Sessions Guide provides specific, detailed instructions for completing the series of steps required in PearsonAccessnext for creating through starting student test sessions.
In addition, the Creating Test Sessions Guide is located on the End-of-Course webpage of the KDE website and in the Support section of PearsonAccessnext.

END-OF-COURSE (EOC) ONLINE FIELD TESTING AND ACT COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTING

Questions have been shared about the EOC Field Tests and the ACT College Admissions Test because they both use different versions of the TestNAV 8 delivery system. The information below will help clarify the difference between the two test delivery systems. The EOC Online Field Test system uses TestNAV 8 Apps to deliver the test content.
DoNOTuse the TestNAV 8 browser-based version for EOC Field Tests. The ACT College Admissions test system uses TestNAV 8 browser-based version to deliver the test content. DoNOTuse the TestNAV 8 App version for the ACT Test. Treat these as separate systems as the content may not display or operate the same way under the different versions of the TestNAV 8 system.

ACT College Admissions = TestNAV 8 Browser-Based
