Campbell and Manke Dominate in Book Battle Jeopardy at Hoover Middle School

Team Swaggy, Alyssa Campbell and Kassidy Manke, captured 1st place in Hoover Middle School’s 2nd Annual Book Battle Jeopardy competition held on November 29, 2012. Second place went to the Destroyers, Noemi Bekteshi and Aliyah Carroll, and third place, Squishy Bubbles, Cameron Markott and Anna Taylor, the 2011 champions. These students read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, No More Dead Dogs by Gordon Korman and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Campbell and Manke talk a little about their Book Battle Jeopardy experience:

What advice would you give Book Battle Jeopardy participants next year?

Campbell: …be quick with the buzzer.

Manke: Read the books slowly and make sure you read all of the books. Look through the book and come up with questions to quiz each other.

What do you like best about reading?

Campbell: Reading introduces us to an awesome world, and it opens your eyes to different possibilities.

Manke: I like getting to know the characters, that’s why I like reading series. When I find a book I really like I become connected to the characters as if they were real people.

What did you gain from the Book Battle Jeopardy experience?

Campbell: Kassidy and I not only gained the chance to show our swaggy-selves and our smarts, but we got to experience the awesome thrill of competition.

Manke: I am normally a really shy person, winning Book Battle Jeopardy was a bit of a confidence booster. It was really fun to work with my friend in doing things we love, reading. I liked competing for a prize, while having fun.

Hoover Middle School is located at 249 Thorncliff Road in the Town of Tonawanda.
