Juvenile Care Worker

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill one (1)vacant post ofJuvenile Care Worker inthe Department of Probation of the Anguilla Public Service.

The post is in Grade H with a starting salary of EC $57,120.00 per annum.

The key duties of the post are:

  1. Be a positive role model for Juveniles in setting examples and modelling good behaviour consistently.
  1. Assist Juveniles in adhering to the conditions of their Court Order(s), bringing to the Supervisor’s attention any threat of or actual non-compliance.
  1. Assist Juveniles with their problem solving through use of recognised behavioural methods.
  1. Be available to work a shift system to enable the Centre to have staff cover 24 hours seven days a week. This includes public holidays.
  1. Participate fully in identifying and implementing initiatives to benefit the rehabilitation of residents.
  1. Assist in the planning, implementation of daily care plans, offending behaviour programmes and preparation for resettlement.
  1. Assist in the development of a thorough and comprehensive admission procedure within the centre, including a referral system which is transparent, easy to manage and that facilitates continuity of care.
  1. Assist in the development of the centre’s procedures and protocols, related to programmes of care and other interventions.
  1. Offer young offenders advice and support, referring them to specialist agencies in consultation with the supervisor.
  1. Work with the Juvenile Centre and other multi-disciplinary team members to ensure a coordinated approach to managing Juvenile offending behaviour.
  1. Act in ways at all times, to promote the health, wellbeing and safety of residents.
  1. Help to ensure a secure physical environment at all times.
  1. Use observational and recording skills to keep up to date and accurate records of all interventions with Juveniles under care (inclusive of behaviour).
  1. Attend residents care plan and treatment reviews as required.
  1. Attend Court when necessary.
  1. Liaise with relevant services i.e. Education, Health, Courts, Social Development and as required.
  1. Liaise with the young person’s family to help ensure their involvement in the care and treatment plans.
  1. Ensure all meals are properly prepared on a daily basis, including any special dietary requirements of residents.
  1. Ensure that the centre is kept clean and hygienic at all times
  1. Attend meetings of the centre and of other organisations when required.
  1. Assist the Supervisor with any delegated duties.
  1. Participate in disaster management activities designed to prepare for, mitigate against and respond to disaster events.
  1. Strive consistently to provide excellence in customer service in the public sector.
  1. Perform any other duties as required by the job function.

(i)Manage own time and work duties in an effective and efficient manner in line with job requirements and agreed objectives.

Initiative and Problem Solving

(i)Be proactive in assisting with the continuing development of the juvenile residential centre services.

(ii)Be aware of and assess potential situations which are likely to impact on the smooth running of the centre.

Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

These competencies are normally obtained through the acquisition of a university degree in social work or a related degree. A diploma in Social Work or related degree will also be considered. Knowledge of and experience in working with offending juveniles would be an asset.

Consideration will be given to mature persons with knowledge of dealing with offenders in addition to having had a minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with juveniles and or offenders.Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
