Gaelic football games originally evolved from the annual games during the feast of Lunaghsa (August 1st) for almost 4000 years between 1829 BC – 1169 AD. Before the game was codified to a standard form in 1884, with the founding of the modern GAA, this traditional sport was recorded in the 14th century, “known as a cross-country football and was called ‘caid in County Kerry, taking its name from the ball of horsehide or oxhide which had an inflated natural bladder inside it “(Healy, 1998). No wonder our Kerry kindred claim the “kingdom”!
