Who’s New at the National Center

Andrew Broughton, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who has begun work as a technology consultant to the National Center. Andy comes to us most recently from eight years at the School of Social Work, UNC – Chapel Hill, where he was a Senior Research Associate. While at UNC he assisted various faculty and staff in their use of technology. This work included the design and use of Web-based databases and data collection systems, project Web pages, as well as the use of various videoconferencing systems. Prior to that, Andy was Director of Program Evaluation and Applied Research for twelve years at a large mental health center in New York State. There he designed and implemented the facility’s first personal computer network, their quality assurance information system, and managed a project to design and pilot test an electronic patient record system for the State of New York.

Andy will be working on cross-site communications and also will aid members of the Network in their use of technology to facilitate their programmatic goals. He will also be working with the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) on data issues, measures, and information flow in the Network. Andy can be contacted at or at (919) 687-4686, ext. 306.

Judy Holland, MPH, began work as Manager of the National Resource Center on February 4, 2002. Judy brings to the National Resource Center over 20 years of experience as a service provider, client advocate, and state level program administrator in the child mental health field. In her various roles at the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, she worked with local service providers, including child welfare agencies, juvenile justice programs, and consumer/advocacy organizations to inform and develop state level programs and policies. As Director of Carolina Alternatives, a Medicaid managed care waiver for children, she worked with the ten pilot sites to develop policies, outcome measures, and public relations materials, a process similar to the development phase of our Network.

As Manager of the National Resource Center, Judy will collect, coordinate, and disseminate information through the Network website, training events, and videoconferences. She can be contacted at or at (919) 687-4686, ext. 302.

David Foy, Ph.D., will be working with the National Center as the Interim Chair of the Training Committee. Dave is currently affiliated with both the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University and the Headington Program in International Trauma at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also a Senior Research Consultant to the Menlo Park and Pacific Island Divisions of the National Center for PTSD. Dave has many years’ experience in providing training for doctoral psychology students, as well as colleagues in other mental health disciplines. He has served as dissertation chairperson for more than 50 studies related to psychological trauma over the past 15 years, and many of his students have gone on to productive careers in the field of traumatic stress. He has also been a pioneer in the development of psychological assessment methods for various forms of trauma exposure and related distress in children and adolescents. Within the next few weeks, Dave will be getting in touch with those who expressed interest in participating on the Training Committee. He can be reached at or at (818) 501-1611.

Iliane Morrissey has joined the UCLA office as our Office Coordinator. She comes to us from C2Media.com, a graphic design firm. She has experience in customer service and tech support, and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. She also has a background in graphic arts and is fluent in Spanish. Iliane will be answering the phones at the UCLA office (call and say hello!), handling scheduling for Bob Pynoos, making travel arrangements for Network-related events, and assuming other office management responsibilities. She can be reached at or (310) 235-2633.

Upcoming Meetings of Special Interest

We hope that our listing of upcoming meetings will accomplish two goals. Of course, we want to make sure all of you know about meetings that provide special opportunities for your own continuing education in child trauma services or research. We also want to make sure that you know of opportunities to submit papers and presentations to make your own work better known, either individually or as part of a team from within the Network. We want to make sure to include meetings that may not have a specific focus on child trauma, because it is very important that the other parts of the children’s services fields gain new understanding of child trauma. The more they know about child trauma, the better they can assess and treat the children who come to them for help.
