Job Title:Fund Development Coordinator

Summary:

This position is the primary grant writer and prospect researcher of funding opportunities for the organization as part of the Fund Development Team. This position will also provide staff support and assistance to special projects related to major giving ($500 or more), including capital campaign, annual appeal, and board special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned in line with individual’s experiences and qualifications.

  1. Conducts research on potential funding sources.
  2. In consultation with the Fund Development Team, writes and submits grant proposals to governmental agencies, foundations, corporate and business sources and conducts appropriate follow-up.
  3. Advises Fund Development Team on key funding opportunities and strategies to obtain funding.
  4. Maintains Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.
  5. Management of the grants submission procedure which includes the maintenance of grants calendar (that logs submission deadlines), funding priorities relevant to Journey House, and reporting dates.
  6. Executes thank you letter to all donors (cash and in-kind) for tax purposes.
  7. Coordinates Board Thank You system to all donors (cash and in-kind).
  8. Provides active support to appropriate board committees.
  9. Assist in the management and facilitation of Journey House fundraising events, withspecial emphasis on the Annual Appeal. Persistent follow-up with volunteers and key staff/leaders to successfully meet deadlines.
  10. Daily use of Journey House Atrium to communicate within the organization, manage and track projects and outcomes, and share knowledge.
  11. Attend and participate in policy forums, committees, community meetings, and public events relevant to fundraising and grant writing.
  12. Attend and participate in Journey House staff meetings and events.
  13. Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise all interns and volunteers who report directly to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree required.Advanced graduate degree preferred in business administration, community development, communications, urban planning, urban educational administrative leadership, or social work.
  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience in a research, grant writing, or program reporting position in a nonprofit, government, or institution of higher learning.
  • Proven track record in designing, implementing, and evaluating fund and/or program development for urban education, social, housing, economic development, or other related programs.
  • Ability to flawlessly communicate through excellent written communication skills. This includes strong skills in proof-reading and editing.
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative evaluation and assessment of programs and building organizational capacity.
  • Excellent time management capabilities and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects/events.
  • Working knowledge of social media and how to leverage tools for fund development.
  • Ability to take direction from the Operations Director and to delegate tasks as appropriate to volunteers.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven success in fundraising and grant writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by actively engaging, developing and consulting teams in diverse settings.
  • Knowledge of non-profit functions and capacity building strategies.
  • Proven ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Resourceful, creative, innovative, flexible, ability to work without direct supervision and with extremely limited resources.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications [Word, Excel, PowerPoint], database and Internet.
  • Proficient in Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred.
  • Ability to adjust to crisis situations, motivates others, and utilizes effective listening skills.
  • An enthusiasm to stay current with community development, non-profit, human services, youth leadership, community organizing innovations, and fundraising best practices.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends
