Joseph E. Winek Construction Scholarship

Introduction
The Joseph E. Winek Scholarship is awarded to Freshmen or Sophomore (less than 60 hours counting towards their degree) Construction Science and Management (BS-CSM) Majors. The scholarship is granted annually until such time as the endowment grows to support a four year scholarship for entering freshmen or freshmen transfer (less than 30 hours). This scholarship is given to scholastically talented students interested in construction with financial need a secondary consideration.
Background
The scholarship was established by Mrs. Dorothea Winek to honor her late husband Joseph E. Winek (1918-2001). He was a long time Industrial Education teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who also worked construction in the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Winek had four sons who all received either a Ph.D, M.D. or both degrees. They strongly believe in education as a means for providing people with a better life. This scholarship was established to provide entering college students with the funds to help create a better life for themselves through education.
Basic Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management (CSM)
· Have completed less than 60 counting credit hours towards the CSM degree
· Have a 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 grading scale on appropriate transcript (Freshmen-high school transcript, transfer students-transfer transcript or Texas State transcript)
· Have declared Construction Science and Management as their major (as validated by a student’s Degree Audit)
· Have a current transcript (can be unofficial)
· Applications due in the Engineering Technology office (R.F.Mitte, Room 2240) by the first Monday after the Thanksgiving Holiday
