Boyd H. Smith, age 89 of Macon, Georgia, died June 9, 2013, at Carlyle Place-Harrington House in Macon.

A graveside service will be held in Westview Cemetery, Westview Street, in Monticello, Georgia, on June 11, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Rindy Trouteaud will officiate. Following the graveside service, visitation for the family will be held at the home of Robby and Debby Kelly, 573 College Street, Monticello, Georgia. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Presbyterian ML&J Fund, P.O. Box 308 Monticello, Georgia 31064.

Mr. Smith was a native of Perry County, Alabama, and the husband of Sara S. Smith, who preceded him in death. His parents were the late James Alfred Smith and Mary Elizabeth Sims Smith. He was a graduate of Perry County High School in Marion, Alabama, and received a degree from the School Of Engineering at The University of Alabama. He was a member and elder of Monticello Presbyterian Church and a member of various Rotary Clubs throughout his life.

He served in World War II with the U. S. Army Signal Corps in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was employed with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Mobile, Alabama District for over 36 years, being the top administrative employee during the last 15 years of his service there. He retired from the Corps in 1980. Following his retirement, he was employed as an engineer and manager of the Gulf Shores, Alabama Water Board from 1982 to 1988.

He and his wife, Sara Smith, retired to Monticello, Georgia, in 1988 and in 2000 relocated to Macon. He lived at Carlyle Place on Zebulon Road.

His brothers, Clifton Smith and Earl Smith; and sisters, Pearl Smith, Dora Kirk, Sallie Tucker, Sarvella Averette preceded him in death.

Survivors include: daughter Deborah Boyd Smith Kelly and son-in-law Roy Robinson Kelly, III, of Monticello, GA; son James Scott Smith and daughter-in-law Karen LaJoy Smith of Carbondale, CO.; daughter Marla Jean Smith Hastings and son-in-law Kenneth Dwayne Hastings of Franklin, Tenn.

Mr. Smith’s grandchildren are: Roy Robinson Kelly, IV and wife Allison Roberts Kelly of Savannah, Ga.; Sara Kelly Pace and husband Thomas Allen Pace of McDonough, Ga.; Cadle Frances Edwards and husband Britt Steven Edwards of Hermitage, Tenn.; Jessica Smith Haggerty and husband Ryan Allen Haggerty of Denver, CO.; Sarah Brooke Smith and Collin Adam Smith of Carbondale, CO; Andrew Kenneth Hastings of Nashville, Tenn., Samuel Buchanan Hastings, Niles Edward Hastings, Anna Boyd Hastings, James Daniel Hastings, Grace Eliza Hastings and Hudson Jonathan Hastings of Franklin, Tenn. Great-grandchildren are: Lucille Baynes Kelly and Elizabeth Robinson Kelly of Savannah, GA; Lawson Elizabeth Pace and Walker Cole Pace of McDonough, Ga.; Jackson Ryan Haggerty of Denver, CO.; and Reagan Lennon Edwards and Oscar Phoenix Edwards of Hermitage, Tenn.
