Meeting Notes:
6 Staff members and several of our students have been effected by Hurricane Harvey. Staff, courtesy committee and district resources have been offered and delivered. Efforts to assist our families, continue. Our crisis intervention team is comprised of Nurse Dori, Ms. Ontiveros, Ms. Espinoza and Dr. Baez.
World Relief hosted an 18 wheeler give away… They parked in our parking lot and unloaded food, diapers, formula, cleaning and school supplies. This event attracted students and families from area HISD schools and was a huge success and we kept it open until all resources were picked up 9/8/17.
128 students boarded busses to the Toyota Center to meet Rockets players and received a free pair of Jordan shoes on 9/16/17. Thanks to a generous donation of $500 from Amanaaha which helped pay for transportation to the Toyota Center for the field trip.
Busy Bee Clinic representatives were on campus 9/16/17 and 9/20/17 conducting physicals for our students – over 100 students received free physicals allowing them to participate in athletics. Busy Bee will be returning to offer vaccinations to Long and HISD students in October.
TEA stated that HISD will not have to make up days missed due to Hurricane Harvey. The district has decided to do away with early dismissal days which means students will attend a full day of classes during the previously scheduled early dismissal dates.
Principal Coffee is scheduled 10/5/17 at 9am
Enrollment is low, however Long continues to enroll daily. To date, we are at a total of 900 students, over 100 students lower than last year.
Open House was rescheduled 9/7 (storm) to today, 9/26/17 from 5:30 – 7pm. We will convene in the auditorium, have introductions, make a few announcements and release parents to follow their students’ course schedule. Parents will visit every one of their students’ classes, sign in and learn about the teacher, expectations, etc.
Food services provides free breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to our students. We have much participation in this program. Food services fed everyone that participated in the clinic and/or joined us on the field trip. We will continue this outreach to our students and families.
We are still collecting enrollment/first day packets and ensuring that contact information is updated and lunch applications completed.
Jane Long Committees are in full force (attendance, courtesy, safety, etc.)
We have been assigned a new school police officer – Officer Baray.
PAIR/Amanah Refugee services continue to work with our campus providing support, tutorials, team teaching and after school activities.
SIP was discussed, reviewed and approved by the SDMC.
Attendance is one of our focus areas and we are monitoring closely. We have been calling/contacting parents and conducting home visits to ensure that everyone understands the importance of being here!
We have a new Title I Coordinator: Ms. Joseph who is also performing her administrative internship with us.
Admin Interns: Kennie Oyefusi, Maria Parlante and Pretti Joseph. New HISDPD: Officer Baray.
