Join 18 Hands Gallery in the fight against lung cancer
Benefit set for Saturday, November 15
HOUSTON, TX. – It will be a festive evening at 18 Hands Gallery when the one-year-old ceramic arts gallery presents “Art for the Cure,” a benefit for The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center's Lung Cancer Research Program led by Roy S. Herbst, M.D., Ph.D. The fundraiser is set for Saturday, November 15, 6-9 p.m. at 18 Hands Gallery, 249B West 19th St. in the Heights.
The gallery is thrilled to join hands with M. D. Anderson, one of the world's leading centers in cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.
Co-chairs Albert Goldreich and Nancy Susaneck, along with the other 18 Hands owners and several affiliated artists, are creating new work especially for the silent auction, where 100 percent of sales benefit M. D. Anderson. In addition, 10 percent from gallery sales that evening will be donated to the cause. Auction items include “An Evening at the Gallery” – a private party for 30 at 18 Hands Gallery with light refreshments – perfect for upcoming holiday celebrations!
At “Art for the Cure,” Herbst, professor and chief of the Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology in the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology, will talk briefly about his groundbreaking work in lung cancer research.
“It's not just a smoker's disease,” says Herbst. “We must attack a deadly disease with a creative approach, the same creative approach that inspires a work of art. What finer place than an art gallery to address these issues. It's going to be a wonderful evening of art and cancer advancement.”
