II. Committee Reports – all given by Sara Wermis

A. Fall Fundraiser

a. Only brought in $2,650.00 (budgeted $8,000). May try again next year.

b. Other fundraisers are now needed. We’ll see where we are after these events.

B. Run-a-thon

a. Date moved to March 6 after consulting w/ Mr. Edwards (too much happening in January),

b. This year: No outside company running it – all PTA but procedures are same. Teachers will pick

teams of 5-6 kids. Forms will go in boxes 2 weeks before and money due 2 weeks after event.

c. We need volunteers to help keep track of laps and cheer kids on. Fun!

C. Sweetheart Dance – Friday, Feb. 13 (6-8 pm)
a. New this year in an attempt to make up for Fall Fundraiser shortfall.

b. Semi-formal dance with red carpet/balloon arch. For couples (i.e. mom/grandma/aunt & daughter

or dad/uncle/special adult & son, etc.) Price per couple $20 w/ $5 for each additional child.

Includes photo both (4 photos) 2 pieces pizza, soda/water.

c. Discussion followed re: price. Many parents felt like $20 per couple would be too expensive if

they wanted to bring the whole family. Mr. Edwards pointed out should do what we can do get

the most people at the event. Suggestions: Instead of one price for everything, break it up so

the food/drink, photos & admission all separate. Parents would have more control over how

much money they were able to spend for the evening. New prices will be decided.

c. Flyers go in the boxes next Wed.

D. Candy-grams

$2 each w/ message slot. Delivered on Feb. 13 – flyer in boxes on Feb. 4, money due 2/11.

(4 choices of theatre-sized candy & can go out to students, staff, teachers, etc.)

E. Variety Show – Friday, March 13 (7 pm)

a.Rich & Kathy Kostner are chairs. Same as last year – auditions at Johnson, Show at Hubble.

b. Possibly have a raffle and different ticket prices based on where sitting in the auditorium (more

for first 3 rows, etc.) Flyers out in mid-February.

c. Auditions: March 3 & 4 @ Johnson

F. Taste of Johnson – Friday, April 24 (5-8 pm)

  1. This year treated as our Spring Fundraiser. Will have bounce houses, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy & snow cone machines (w/ help of Mrs. Naberhaus). Also, will ask families to donate

a dish that is special to their family.

  1. Raffles this year – suggestions from staff: ice cream party at recess for 4 of friends, principal for a day, lunch at McDonalds, etc. Sara will put form together and it will be brought up to staff in March.
  2. Art viewing from 5-6 pm only and no musical groups performing this year. (Hall Monitors needed).
  3. Volunteers needed to help out during the day.

G. Other Upcoming Events

a. Spirit Week – week before Spring break

b. Art to Remember – mid-April: Not a fundraiser but fun for the parents & kids – high participation

c. Staff Appreciation Week – 1st week in May

d. Multicultural Day – May 15

III. Unfinished Business

IV. New Business

  1. Communicating with Parents
  1. All PTA forms/flyers on yellow paper, trying to use PACE calls
  2. Suggestion by Mr. Edwards to post pictures of officers so people know who we are.
  3. Need to communicate to parents the high need for volunteers – 30 min. makes HUGE difference!
  1. Payment Plans
  1. Can we do this for all events or at least let parents know this is a possibility? Officers will discuss how this might work and if it’s feasible.
  1. Special Needs PTA (district-wide)
  1. Cindy Tschetter informed us of this new initiative in District 200 and said it was still in the planning stages. She offered to be our liaison with this group (plus anyone else interested in helping out).
  1. Winter Clothing/Recess Attire
  1. Angela Matheny stressed the need for students to come to school dressed appropriately and gave examples of many kids coming out to recess and not wanting to come inside despite their lack of winter attire. Also it’s important to make sure that kids know how to put on their snowpants, etc.
  2. Mr. Edwards said there was not much we could do except make the kids who do not have adequate protection come in from outside. They have the option of a movie in the music room or sometimes access to the gym during recess.

V. Adjournment
Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
