Summary

Authors who wish to use Microsoft Word should use this template. Page setup, basic form of header/footer, fonts, etc. are already correctly set up in this file. Simply replace the text, title, name and so forth with your own. The title should be in bold, centered and 14pt, while your name and affiliation should be centered, not bold and12pt. For more than two authors use the following format: John Smith, Jane Doe, and Bruce Wayne. The titles for the summary and résumé should be bold, small caps and 10pt. The summary text should also be 10pt. Please keep to Times or Times New Roman throughout the entire text unless you need special fonts. Text should be justified throughout the document.

Résumé

A French version of your summary is also required. For title formatting, three empty lines (11pt) should be inserted between the title and the author’s name, then again between the affiliation and the summary title, and again between the last line of the English summary and the résumé title. Six empty lines (also 11pt) should then be added between the end of the French summary and the first section heading.

1Headings

Headings should be bold, size 12, and in small caps. Remember that when using small caps you should still use regular capitalization. Heading numbers are aligned with the left margin and the heading text should be separated from the number by 0.4cm. Insert an empty line (11pt) below the section heading and the first paragraph of the section, and also just before a new section heading. If you wish to have two headings in a row, insert and empty line (11pt) between these two headings, as shown below in sections 2 and 2.1. Alternatively format the heading styles in Word so that there is an 11pt space before and after the heading (Format → style → heading 1 → modify → format paragraph → set spacing before and after to 11pt).

2Body

2.1Page Setup

The main body text should be size 11pt and justified. It should also be single-spaced. The first paragraph of every section should not be indented. Bottom, and side margins should be set to 3.17cm. The top margin should be set to 4.0cm.

However, the first line of every paragraph other than the first should be indented by 0.8cm.

2.2Footnotes

For footnotes use the automatic reference function for Word[1].

3Headers and Footers

Headers and footers should be set up to “different odd and even” as well as “different first page”. The first page header should be empty, while the footer contains the McGWPL reference and the copyright in size 8.5pt. On even pages, the page number goes in the right corner of the header, while the title is in the left corner. On odd pages, the number goes in the left corner and the author’s name in the right corner.

4Examples

Examples should be given between parentheses, e.g. (2) or (2a) and should be aligned with the left margin. An empty line should precede and another one should follow the example. Glosses should be included for any example not in English, along with a translation.

(1)Ceci est un exemple en français.

This is a example in French

‘This is an example in French.’

Multiple examples may be associated with the same number, using letters starting from ‘a’ and followed by a period ‘.’ and 4 spaces (11pt). No empty lines should come between examples associated with the same number.

(2)a. This example should something

b. This other example shows a related fact.

5Tables, Figures, etc.

If you wish to include tables, charts, or pictures, make sure that they appear inside the regular margins, and that theydo not contain any colour. They should also be associated with a table or figure number. Below is an example table.

Table 1: Distribution of subject by age, sex, and education

18-25 / 26-35 / 35+
University / High School / University / High School / University / High School
Men / 4 / 5 / 6 / 1 / 7 / 3
Women / 2 / 4 / 7 / 5 / 8 / 7

An empty line should be inserted before and after each table or figure.
