  • Mrs. Salas reminded teachers to continue practicing safety drills: Lockdown, Shelter in Place, Severe Weather, Evacuation: Fire Drill
  • Reviewed parent brochure with safety information for parents to know the procedures to take when an emergency at school arises

  1. Stand and Deliver
  • Mr. Garcia reminded teachers of training on early release, Wednesday, Jan. 31stat AHS starting at 1:30 PM. Reminded teachers about the standards of conduct and arriving on time.
  • Importance of promoting the positive things happening at school on Twitter to ensure that students are staying at SISD schools. IDEA Charter schools are opening in El Paso and we want to make sure our students stay at our schools.
  1. Staffing for Next Year
  • Spoke about balancing numbers for fine arts and electives to ensure and equal number of students in each class.
  • Super School for everyone will be from 8:00 to 8:45 next year.

  • Teachers make sure you update your webpage and check for correct grammar.
  • Pep Rally this Friday @ 1:00 PM
  • Drugan hosting Track meet this Saturday-Volunteers needed
  1. CIS Report
  • Mr. Rosa reported on updates from Communities in School events.
  • Initiative-Teen Talk for 7th & 8th grade (Awareness of Social Media and negative effects, use of cell phones at school)
  • Collection of milk caps
  • Kickball Tournament
  • Cell phones should be invisible and students should only be able to use phones in the classroom with teacher permission for class activities.
  • Will discuss CIS side plan next SIT meeting
  1. Direction 5: Accountability for All
  1. CIP-Formative Review
  • Divided CIP by goals and performance objectives and assigned each SIT member a section to review and discuss with their team members. CIP formative review is due on Friday, February 9th to Mrs. Salas.
  1. Budget
  • Mr. Garcia reviewed the monthly budget report. Emphasized to teachers that a large amount of money has gone to paper. Teachers making an excessive amount of copies.
  • Title I Funds-Spent on intervention resources such as Motivation Workbooks, Scholastic Publications, Storyworks, IXL membership, Region 4 materials. Be mindful of intervention materials; make sure you are utilizing them in your classrooms. A large part of the funds is used for tutoring opportunities.

  • District will be purchasing Dibbles for Dyslexia program and will be providing training for K-1st grade teachers.
  • District will be sending out a staff development survey to find out the campus staff development needs.
  • Districtwide implementation of Nearpod for instructional use in the classroom. On Feb. 1, licenses will be sent to teachers to access Nearpod for free for the rest of the school year. Teachers will be receiving an email with Nearpod credentials.
  • Teachers contact Kelvin Crain for technology support @. He is John Drugan’s Instructional Technology Specialist.

b. Open forum concerns from grade levels

  • 2nd Grade-Thank Claudia for having supplies ready
  • 3rd Grad- No Concerns
  • 4th Grade-Concerned that they wanted their students to support 100th Day Celebration this past Friday, but they were not informed about the event. For future purposes, they would like to be informed or given a map of parade route to be able to show their support.
  • 5th-8th Grade No Concerns
  • SPED-Early release (If the early release schedule can be changed to be able to see 4th through 6th period). Due to an overlap with fine arts classes, schedule does not work on early release for latter periods.
  • Fine Arts concerned with elementary and middle school students transitioning in the breeze way after Super School. Need to monitor transitions.
  • SIT parent brought up a concern with traffic in the parking lot. Many parents are entering through the wrong side or are not adhering to crosswalks, including staff members. Administration will talk to cross guards to report any traffic violations happening.
