Job Summary

As session leaders, Instructors lead the delivery of learning and assess student progress. They work closely with a small tutor group to support and guide students to maximise their potential. We are recruiting for a Gym/Sports Instructor (part time) and a requirement for the role is a level 2/3 gym qualification. The successful candidate must also either have or be willing to work towards a Level 5 Teaching qualification.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce schemes of work and session plans that link to the agreed annual timetable, and in-year revisions, supported by Programme Leaders where appropriate.
  • To deliver up to 24 hours guided learning hours per week with students, with the support of in-class support assistance and enablers.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure the effective use of course materials and appropriate educational resources to deliver high quality teaching and learningthrough a range of activities for a broad range of students at a pace and level which meet the students’ individual needs.
  • Support the planning and delivery of induction and baseline assessment of students, including target setting against in-year and future year targets and EHCP aspirations
  • Support the effective delivery of the college timetable and extended curriculum, ensuring compliance with funders’ contracts.
  • Deliverteaching & learning, and assess student attainment of bothaccredited and non-accredited units as appropriate; meeting the requirements of the College policies and procedures, and awarding body guidelines.
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, and reflect on their actions in order to improve sustainably in the future.
  • Promote and support students to adhere to demonstrate socially acceptable, positive behaviours consistent with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Regularly assess, record and report on the progress and achievement of students, providing regular contributions to student review reports and MDT Meetings. Identify students ‘at risk’ of not completing and support planning to mitigate any risks.
  • Support the students’ personal development and transition needs through liaison with Programme Leaders. Therapists and Rehabilitation Officers, Enablers / Student Support Assistants and the Transitions Team.
  • Plan lessons effectively, including direction of Enablers / Student Support Assistants to meet student and session requirements. Guide and support your delivery team including in-class support arrangements as appropriate.
  • Liaise with and ensure effective communication other education, therapy and care staff to support the success of the students and the programme.
  • Work within the College quality systems and contribute to the self-assessment process as required.
  • Carry out effective administration duties within the role.
  • Attend all Henshaws mandatory and compulsory training sessions, taking responsibility to ensure training is up to date at all times.
  • Take responsibility for your own personal and professional development, including CPD where appropriate.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across Henshaws Society, and other providers where appropriate.
  • Offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Represent Henshaws in professional manner at all times, contributing to marketing and recruitment activities for Henshaws Society as required and acting as an effective ambassador for the college and Henshaws Society.
  • Where appropriate, undertake work in other locations in order to ensure obligations to students, service users and third parties are fulfilled.
  • Comply with Henshaws Health & Safety requirements and be aware of and adhere to current Henshaws policies and procedures.
  • Any other duty as required by the line manager commensurate with the post.
