Job TitleAssociate Lecturer in Education (Numeracy)
Main PurposeTo contribute to the teaching and assessment of courses leading to the award of BEd (Hons), PGCE[1], and/or
Masters-Level qualifications. Tutors may also be required to contribute to other aspects of the work of the College as deemed appropriate by the Principal.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Teaching
1.1To contribute to the teaching and examining of courses on undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree programmes at St Mary’s University College.
1.2To contribute, as required, to the teaching and examining of Continuous Professional Development and such other courses which may be offered by the College.
1.3To attend course team meetings relating to teaching and examining.
2.Course Development
2.1To participate in relevant course evaluation meetings which may be deemed necessary.
2.2To contribute, as required, to the development of new courses and teaching approaches to learning and teaching.
3.Pastoral Support
3.1To support students in their learning and formation.
4.School Based Work
4.1To contribute to the preparation of students for participation in School Experience.
4.2To contribute, if required, to the assessment of students on School Experience.
4.3To foster harmonious relationships between the College and schools.
5. Professional Development
5.1To attend training which may be deemed necessary.
Rates of Pay: £50.92 gross per hour (inclusive of preparation time)
£30.55 gross per hour for administration, including marking
The role holder may also be asked to undertake the assessment of students on School Experience; the rate of pay for this work is currently £180.46 gross per full day and £90.23 gross per half day.
Pension:If eligible, Associate Lecturers will be enrolled on the Department of Education Teachers’ Pension Scheme
Availability of work is not guaranteed during the registration period from September 2017 until June 2020. The aim of holding a register for three years is to maintain a pool of suitably qualified personnel to call upon as the need arises. However there is a need for associate lecturers in Education (Numeracy) from September 2017 until June 2018. Candidates will be shortlisted using criteria outlined in the Personnel Specification and invited to attend for interview where they will be assessed against all criteria in more detail.

Eligibility Criteria
- Qualifications
- A good Honours degree or equivalent
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Knowledge & Experience
- Have at least four years’ experience of teaching at primary school level
- Desirable Criteria
The Selection Panel may apply one or all of the desirable criteria at the shortlisting stage should it be necessary. Please describe in your application form if you have the following:
- Have successful experience of curriculum and/or resource development in primary education in relation to numeracy
- Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge within the subject discipline to successfully deliver teaching and work within established teaching programmes.
- Knowledge of current education policy and key priorities in relation to Numeracy in schools
- A higher degree in education or in an appropriate subject relevant to the subject area to be taught
- Research experience and interests in an appropriate field relevant to the subject area
- Experience of teaching in higher education
- Competences
In addition to the eligibility and desirable criteria the Selection Panel will assess suitability in the following competences at the interview stage. Competence is about what people actually do, it is about how you apply or demonstrate the knowledge and skills whilst carrying out your tasks. Applicants must be able to provide sufficient information to enable judgements of competence to be made in these areas:

- Learning & Teaching Support
- Pastoral Care & Welfare
The Selection panel will design questions to test the applicant’s knowledge, experience and competence in the above areas and award marks accordingly.
Driving Licence
Candidates must indicate if they have a driving licence and a willingness to travel to schools if required to undertake School Experience assessment. Reasonable mileage expenses will be reimbursed in line with Travel and Subsistence Procedures available upon commencement.
