Job Title:Young Person’s Development Worker

Reports to:Project Coordinator (Regenerate)

Accountable for:The development and coordination of engagement activities in partnership with young people focusing on self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing.

Responsible for:The post holder will be responsible for developing and facilitating engagement activities with the aim of moving young people into education, training or employment.

Salary£20,382 - £21,782

Hours:37.5 to be worked flexibly. It is anticipated that this will include some weekend and evening work.

Location:52 Walter Road

This post is a 3 year fixed term contract.

Overview:

The vision of the New Beginnings project is the result of on-going work involving young people in taking control. The need for the project has been identified by young people, in partnership with other stakeholders, SYSHP staff, other agencies and employers. The project will complement and enhance existing homelessness support services through the provision of additional mentoring support and activities that focus on supporting young people to move on and thrive, through inspiring self-confidence, developing new skills, acquiring qualifications and ultimately achieving economic independence through paid employment

The post holder will play an important role in engaging and working with young people to develop activities that will improve self-confidence, develop skills and give young people a voice.

Main responsibilities

Project delivery

  • To engage and motivate young people that are hard to reach.
  • To create action plans with young people and organise one to one or group sessions and support as required.
  • To facilitate structured and non-structured activities
  • To ensure that regular contact is maintained with young people.
  • To work effectively with team members to ensure delivery of the team tasks in line with the project objectives.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with young people to enable them to take part in the new beginnings project and participation processes within SYSHP the wider community.
  • To work with stakeholders to use the new beginnings project as a means of engaging with young people who may not be engaging in support.
  • To work with other stakeholders to create volunteering placements for young people and to support young people in their placements.
  • To work with relevant partner agencies as identified by the needs of the young people.

Quality and Administration

  • To maintain young people’s personal files and update records of their progress in the project.
  • To liaise and link with the young people and stakeholders to monitor progress.
  • To ensure that all relevant quantitative/ qualitative data is collected for effective monitoring of the project and create appropriate methods for data collection, in liaison with relevant members of staff.
  • To take part in the monitoring, reviewing and evaluation of the work in conjunction with project staff and young people.

Other

  • To comply with and support SYSHP’s equal opportunities policies and procedures.
  • To keep up to date with SYSHP’s policies and procedures.
  • To receive regular supervision and to use this in conjunction with staff appraisal and training to further professional development. This includes taking part in staff meetings and development days.
  • To comply with and promote SYSHP’s health and safety policies and to work within the legislative guidance of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • To undertake training as required.
