JOB TITLE: Wastewater Operator

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Wastewater

REPORTS TO: City Manager, Public Works Director, Wastewater Superintendent

SUMMARY:

A Wastewater Operator is responsible for routine and emergency maintenance of the wastewater collection system, and to assist in preventative maintenance of all essential components at the wastewater treatment plant. Under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent, or Public Works Director the Wastewater Operator will assist in repair and routine maintenance of all components of the wastewater collection system, and at the wastewater and conditioning, lift station repair and maintenance, backups, spills and preventative maintenance of wastewater treatment plant pumps, motors and essential equipment. A Wastewater Operator will work closely with the Wastewater Superintendent or Public Works Director to assure that the collection system is in good operating condition. Additional duties include assisting other departments when necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·  The ability to follow written and/or oral directions and maintain the wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment plant.

·  Follow proper instruction to assure the wastewater department conforms to the requirements set forth by TCEQ.

·  The ability to complete day-to-day work assigned by the Wastewater Superintendent or Public Works Director, and ensures completion of wastewater work orders.

·  Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

·  Modern methods and applied theory used in the wastewater collection system, proper jobsite safety regulations, and ability to use essential equipment to complete work assigned.

·  Principles of jobsite safety, equipment safety and proper maintenance.

·  Complete work assigned in the collection system, treatment plant and maintenance activities.

·  Communicate effectively both written and orally.

·  Understand and apply training received on proper treatment plant and collection system operations and maintenance.

·  Understand, interpret and carry out oral and written instructions.

·  Respond timely and effectively to any emergency situations.

The Wastewater Operator will be under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent and Public Works Director or City Manager. The Wastewater Operator may also be required to take emergency call-outs for situations that may occur after hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·  High school diploma/GED required

·  Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position.

·  Minimum TCEQ recognized Class “D” Wastewater Treatment Operator license, or the ability to obtain a Class “D” license within 6 months.

·  Ability to read, write, interpret, and follow written or oral instruction, as well as provide written and oral instructions.

·  Ability to lift, carry, or push less than or equal to 100 lbs.

·  Ability to endure varying weather conditions provided the time of year.

·  Ability to sit, bend, twist, crouch, walk and crawl on a frequent daily basis.

·  Ability to operate essential heavy machinery needed to complete assigned work.
