Summary: Routine warehouse work in receiving, delivering, stocking, and maintaining inventory of a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the Lafayette Parish School System.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Warehouse Worker I shall be employed under the following terms: Work year of 244 days; salary, benefits, leave time and conditions are approved by the Lafayette Parish School Board;conditions established by all laws and codes of the State, and all policies, rulesand regulations established by the Louisiana State Board of Education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties as assigned.

  • Works cooperatively with Warehouse Workers in performing daily Warehouse functions.
  • Assists in preparing warehouse inventory orders for delivery as submitted and delivers orders of supplies, materials, and equipment as scheduled.
  • Receives deliveries of supplies, materials, and equipment; verifies delivery paperwork, and submits to appropriate supervisor.
  • Secures appropriate paperwork signatures associated with supplies, materials, and equipment being picked up and delivered.
  • Operates forklifts and pallets jack to load, unload, and store various supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Restocks warehouse inventory upon delivery; assists in monthly physical inventory of items and verifies count with supervisor.
  • Maintains delivery truck fleet in a clean and operable condition; according to established safety rules and regulations.
  • Travels to deliver and pick up supplies, materials, and equipment as scheduled.
  • Assists in transferring furniture, equipment, and fixed assets to and from schools and other LPSS sites.
  • Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of warehouse buildings and property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Acceptable experience in warehouse operations which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Ability to handle both heavy and delicate equipment and materials in a safe manner.
  • Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of warehouse equipment such as fork lifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to read, write, and confirm materials shipped as requested.
  • Ability to follow directions and instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other district personnel.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Knowledge and ability to learn to operate computerized tracking devices.
  • Ability to comply with established safety rules and regulations.
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana Commercial Driver’s License required.

  • Education and/or Experience: Graduation from accredited high school or GED.
  • Certificates and Licenses: Possession of a valid Class B Louisiana Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake endorsement required, or commitment to obtain such license within ninety (90) calendar days of employment.

  • Works safely around machinery with moving parts
  • Works on ladders, scaffolding, and mechanical lifts as needed.
  • Specific visual requirements (reading of product labels, directions, equipment operation, instructions, directions, procedures, memos)
  • Specific hearing requirements (oral and phone conversations, danger alarms/safety alerts)
