Job title: Volunteer and Children’s Support Coordinator

Employer: Home-Start Bolton, 16 Wood Street, Bolton BL1 1DY

Responsible to: Home-Start Manager

Hours:18.5 hours per week (days and hours to be agreed)

Length of contract:Three year fixed term contract

Salary:£10 per hour

Home-Start Bolton has supported vulnerable children and families in Bolton for the past 26 years.

We recruit, train and support volunteers from all walks of life across Bolton to support parents with young children in their home for 2-3 hours a week.

This invaluable family support enables parents to provide the best possible ‘Home-Start’ for their children.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established local charity at a time of change and innovation.

Purposes of the job

The post holder will be responsible for recruiting, training and supervising volunteers in accordance with safe recruitment policies and good practice procedures.

Work in partnership with local statutory and voluntary sector partners in order to deliver and maintain a high standard of volunteer support and practice in supporting vulnerable children and families within the Home-Start model.

Contributetothedevelopment anddelivery ofcommunitybasedinitiativesaimedat recruitment ofvolunteersandpromotionoftheHome-Start service.

Implement and observe a high level of safeguarding practice in all areas of work.

Contribute to the effective day to day operation of the Charity in accordance with the Charity’s Memorandum of Articles of Association; Policies; Standards & Methods of Practice; Home-Start UK Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards.

Ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of work.

Specific duties and responsibilities

Volunteer Management

(Training will be provided as necessary in order to undertake these duties)

  • Follow the Home-Start Bolton safe recruitment process.
  • Undertake publicity and outreach work in order to recruit volunteers
  • Interview potential volunteers
  • Deliver the Home-Start UK volunteers training course on working with children and families
  • Place appropriate volunteers with a family
  • Place and supervise volunteers in appropriate children and family settings
  • Provide volunteer support and supervision
  • Identify further training needs of volunteers
  • Provide accurate and timely updates in volunteer files.

Children and Family Support Management

(Training will be provided as necessary in order to undertake these duties)

  • Attend Multi Agency Referral Panels (MARP) meetings with partners (Health Visitors, Midwives, Children Centre Managers)
  • Receive and accept appropriate referrals in line with guidance
  • Undertake family needs assessment in line with guidance
  • Introduce appropriate volunteers to families in line with guidance
  • Undertake family needs reviews in line with guidance
  • Provide accurate and timely updates in family files, data base, Marps and to referrers on the family’s progress
  • To undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare

Project Development and Delivery

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of new projects
  • Contribute to partnership development work
  • Contribute to promotion of the work of the Charity as required
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of policies, practice and procedures
  • Contribute to achieving Quality Assurance Standards (following training)
  • Comply with administration, monitoring and financial systems
  • Provide statistics and monitoring data as required
  • Submit written reports
  • Undertake work as delegated by the Manager to support the strategic management, development and future funding of the Charity

  • Observe a high level of safeguarding practice in all aspects of the job

  • To undertake training identified as relevant to the post.
  • To carry out other duties as required which are in line with the main duties and responsibilities of this post.
