Job title: Therapies Manager

Reporting to:Director of Development and Membership

Location:London office-based with travel around the UK

Hours:Part-time (22.5 hours per week)

Salary: £40,000 -£45, 000 pro-rata

Annual leave:25 days pro-rata

Pension:Pension 7.5% from Arthritis Action and 2.5% from employee

Purpose:The Therapies Manageris a key member of the Arthritis Action Teamresponsible for delivering the Charity’s Therapies Service. He/she will oversee and co-ordinate the development of Arthritis Action’s therapies service ensuring it is evidence-based and widely used by the Members of the Charity.In addition, he/she will develop a relationship with the therapists in order to promote and support expanding membership.

Key Responsibilities:

The role will include, but is not restricted to the following:

Contribute to the delivery of the Charity’s strategic direction and corporate objectives:

  • To monitor the achievement of the Charity’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to physical therapies, provide explanations for significant variances and propose and implement remedial actions where necessary
  • As the team member with operational accountability for delivery of the Charity’s therapy programme, attend and contribute to Board meetings as required.

Development of the Charity’s therapies service:

  • To oversee, propose updates to and co-ordinate the development of the Charity’s therapy programme ensuring it is evidence based, widely used and valued by the Members of the Charity
  • To be responsible for the recruitment and retention of a range of physical therapists referred to as Associated Practitioners (APs). These APs are principally physiotherapists and osteopaths, but also includesome other disciplines as agreed by the Trustees such as Acupuncturists.
  • To develop a productive professional relationship between the Charity and our APsso that not only do they provide therapies to Members but also promote membership of the Charity, particularly in areas of targeted growth, in order to grow the membership and increase the impact of the Charity
  • To develop appropriate standards for the Charity’s APs and to ensure that all APs meet those standards
  • Where appropriate, signpost or deliver relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD) on the subject of arthritis and self-management to APs to encourage them to stay up to date with the research
  • To monitor demand for physical therapies offered by the Charity and, where necessary, ensure that action is taken to bring actual demand in line with targets. This includes therapies provided by APs and at the Charity’s clinic in Harley Street
  • To develop and oversee the system by which Members obtain access to physical therapy sessions subsidised by the Charity
  • To network with the relevant professional bodies and local societies for physical therapy to raise the Charity’s profile
  • Work with the Communications Manager as appropriate to keep social media and the Charity’s website up-to-date with respect to content specific tophysical therapy and write articles for the magazine and eNews
  • Working with the Medical Advisor, maintain an overview of emerging research-based evidence on the effectiveness ofphysical therapiesfor people with arthritis
  • Respond to clinical enquiries from members of the Charity and/or members of the public via phone, email and/or face-to-face as appropriate

Networking:

  • Attend local and national conferences as required acting as an ambassador for the Charity and representing Arthritis Action to promote the Charity to external audiences including building networks and developing valuable contacts
  • Provide self-management health educational and/or exercises presentations to interested stakeholder groups including Members, the public, patient representation groups and healthcare professionals
  • Present at Arthritis Action events including Arthritis Action Groups and Self-Management Events

Other Activities:

  • To have a clear understanding of, and be able to communicate, the aims and objectives and desired outcomes of the different services provided by the Charity
  • Work with the Director of Membership to consider and research the charity’s future exercises prescription strategy
  • To stay abreast of developments in physical therapy and public health including:

Awareness of the latest developments in the field

Dissemination of new researches to the Communication Manager and EMT as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educated to degree level and/or equivalent management or professionalqualification / Essential
Experience of working in the field of physiotherapy, osteopathy or occupational therapy / Essential

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum of 5years’ experience of working in a professional field such as physiotherapy, osteopathy or occupational therapy / Essential
